  1. ok, thanks John! I'll look into it! Patrick
  2. So, do I need to tell the lab that I want it widescreen? And they'll telecine it that way? Is that what you are saying? Or just put bars on it? Because don't some newer HD tvs automatically adjust for widescreen? Thanks, Patrick
  3. Hello everyone, I'm shooting a film on 16 mm for eventual edit and transfer to dvd. I'm only about a fourth done at the moment. Anyway, I kind of want to put the widescreen bars at the top and bottom for the final cut. I watched some footage I shot with and without the bars and it doesn't cut anything significant out. My camera doesn't do Super 16 or I would have done that. I know it sounds kinda gimmicky but I love widescreen and after watching some of my older films on standard TV format, I really prefer widescreen. I know you can never be sure of the limits of the right/left sides of the screen but, if it is in widescreen, you can at least be sure of the top/bottom cut offs. Anyway, I'm rambling, but I wanted some outside opinions. Thanks guys (and gals) Patrick
  4. Thanks John! Yeah, its 250D in there right now. I appreciate your response. All the best, Patrick
  5. Hey all, I'm shooting a film on weekends and sometimes get halfway through a 400 ft roll, as I did this past weekend, and won't shoot again until Saturday. Now, this is low budget so I can't really afford to junk the other 200 ft, so my question is, what will the effect be of leaving the film at room temperature for 5 days? I know it's not good, but rather, how bad is it? Thanks, Patrick
  6. Hey all, I've got a place in town that could take the BETA tapes from the telecine and transfer to uncompressed DVD in AVI format. I'm editing on Media 100 which accepts AVI format. But the MAC has a CD-ROM. Is it possible to extract files from a DVD on a CD-ROM? I'm assuming no, but I wanted some other opinions. I know that CDs can hold all of about 30 seconds of uncompressed video...which isn't really going to work. Thanks to all who reply. Patrick
  7. I meant seperately, actually. I want blur for 24 fps action...but was also hoping the film could provide good for slow-mo work. Sorry I didn't explain that enough. PJ
  8. Hi all, I'm looking for a film that will give me a little blur with action but is also good for slow-mo work. I realize that those go against each other but is there a happy median? Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks PJ
  9. What is the quality resolution of a miniDV? Versus BETA SP? Thanks PJ
  10. Hello all, Quick question. Once you've shot something, I know the rule is to get it to the lab ASAP, but how long could it wait? Also, if you can't get it there right away, is it smart to put it back in the fridge or leave it out? Thanks for the replies. PJ
  11. David, Fredric. Many thanks for your replys. Good point about the eyes getting used to that light. I'm going to work on that flicker effect. Patrick
  12. First off, thanks to all the replys to my questions about the tv lighting. I really appreciate the great advice from you guys. Going back to that, if the tv is supposed to be the only light source in the room, obviously it would be dim. But how much should it be underexposed? 1 stop? A stop and a half? I don't want to go too far. Any recommendations? Much thanks, Patrick
  13. Hey guys, I'm trying to create that effect of the "Tv glow." I don't want it to be the really fake blue look though. Any suggestions are appreciated PJ

    Zoom lenses...

Thanks Mitch, But now I'm a little confused. I was told by someone (whom I thought was reputable) that my old Frezzolini camera (like 20 yrs old) had a CP mount but when I was looking at the Frezzie booklet that came with it, it says it has a "C-Mount" I thought perhaps in the last 20 years the name "C-Mount" has been changed to CP Mount but I guess not. Also, how wide of a lense can you get without it getting fisheye. Is there a recommended lense that can do wide angles but also some close-ups with? Again, all help is appreciated, Patrick

    Zoom lenses...

First off, are a CP mount and a C mount the same thing? And secondly, if you have a zoom lense that's 15 to 120 mm, let's say. If you put it to 15 mm, would that give the same picture as a 15 mm lense? 15 mm is pretty wide, if I'm not mistaken, and it doesn't seem like the zoom lense gets all that wide. All help is very appreciated, PJ
