  1. OK get the idea perfectly. Thanks once again! Migue
  2. I know this must be in the archives but didnt find it. Again for my thesis.... If I want to do black and white photography in video should I plan and use color filters the same way to change contrast as I would on black and white film? I would love to make the tests right now but i dont have a camera and cant shoot. I have desaturated video before and grade it but never used filters for this purpose. any comments woulld be great. Thanks in advance. Miguel
  3. Thanks, I understand that dv compression limitis post production work but the image you see on the monitor is almost the same when you see it reproduced from tape? Watching some stuff I record I found "blocks" in the shadows and areas with constant color and brightnes. I mean in portions of the image where there was no diference in color and brightenes appeard some type of compression making subtle grades of color or brightenes in the scene not too subtle on tape. But I cant recall how this looked in the monitor... Miguel
  4. Hi, I am finishing my thesis and need some help on Dv Compression. I understand well how it works but on the tecnical side. And read diferent books and too many blocks, segments, bits etc...It would be of great help your experience on how the image changes once compressed. The visual diferences when you see the image on the monitor connected right to the camera and after looking at the same image played from the dv tape. I have done several stuff on Dv but your opinion on how color, contrast, definition etc change would be of great help. Soon in LA. Miguel
  5. I can't wait to get there and meet you all! Thanks Rob for your comment on my work! Looking foward to work with all of you. Best Regards! Miguel
  6. Really? Somewhere someone told me it was digital? didnt look digital thoe.... where did you read info of how the movie was made? Miguel

    Smear

Hi, I know smear is a defect of some CCD tecnologies and video tube cameras. I want to make that defect for a scene and wanted to know how could I do it with out using older cameras? Thanks Miguel
  8. Makes absolute sense, I will check it out now. Thanks
  9. Hi, I was testing today some stuff in a VX2000 and when I increased the shutter speed the colors lost saturation (greatly) and the image was not underexposed. This appears mainly on high shutters (1/1000) . But this desaturation didnt happend closing the iris and living a normal shutter of 1/60 (no underexposure) so the lost of saturation was not produced by underexposing. Why does higher shutters produce a lost in color saturation? Miguel
  10. I willl be focusing on Sony PD-150 and wanted to make an introduction (thesis) on CCD in general. I understand how image quality get modified on the different stages (capture and compression) but wanted a more in detalid look. Know where I should look or can give me some info? I have some books but are general or terrible especfic and none mention de sensitometric curve and spectral response. Thanks Miguel
  11. HI, For my thesis I am trying to find the Sensitometric Curve & Spectral Sensitivity curves for the CCD. ANy help would be great regarding this issue.I understand the latitud and contrast characteristics but cant find any graphs or tecnical data (compelte data) of it. Many thanks
  12. Crash: I am 25, Well I first got involved in 3D animation and 2D compositing then discoverd cinematography and got fascinated and in love with it. I started learning cinematography about 3 years ago shooting all I could, most of all shortfilms and worked in a couple of feature films (Film industry in Chile is really small)as production assistant and first director asistant in a TV series and some comercials as production assistant and if I couldnt get involved in some production I just went and watch and carried cables so I could see the other cinematogarphers work. But give me your email and I can email my CV If it is of any help...anything I can help let me know I will be more than glad. Morgan, Thanks! In my demo reel 60% is DV and 40% is 16mm and s16mm, aprox. In DV I used XL1 and PD-150, Depending on the cinematography the director and I wanted I used diferent tools. For example one really low, really low budget short film all we had was the PD-150 and 4 lights of 500W and about 50 dollars and 1 day shoot. I knew I couldnt get the contrast I needed with the lights I had so I concentrated in getting enough information between shadows, midtones and highlights and color separation and then color graded it with Combustion. Well thats one case. In film 2 short films are 16mm using a 16BL Arri and one in SR3. My latest short film was shot in 16BL again but I am including it now in my demo reel. Glad you liked it! Miguel Jayson, Looking foward to meeting you too. Best Regards. Miguel
  13. Great! thanks for the info! Miguel
  14. Kevin, I get the idea but when in IRE units is the exposure correct? And in the spot meter Should I look for a Stop equal to the one used in video camera? Thanks Miguel
  15. Thanks for the clarification...I was going the wrong way, my teacher told me most cameras had mecanical shutters including PD-150. Saved me a lot of time and work. Thanks! Miguel
  16. OK, I get the idea. Well thanks for all the Imput! I apreciate It. Thanks for your time. Miguel
  17. Alvin, Thanks! Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it. Miguel

    VIDEO ASA

One more question, whats the equivalent in ASA for a camera like Sony PD-150 or XL1? I read somewhere that for HD it was 320. Many thanks in advance! Miguel
  19. I am writing my Thesis now and cant find if the Sony Pd-150 hsa a mecanical or an electronic Shutter can someone tell me please? I understand how both work but I am not sure if the image outcome is diferent..anyone has experience with this? Miguel
  20. Crash, Sure but right now I am editing a new demo reel with some material I didnt include in the last one becasue I was filming. But If you can I have a demo reel on the web, I think is the same one I sent to AFI. BUt anyway is the same footage. www.uniweb.cl/miguel.teitelboim/ The compression is terrible so when I finish the demo reel I send you one. Right now I am with tons of work. Hope it helps and let me know if you need anything else. Miguel
