  1. Achieving a blood design on white wall Although I could see many blood splatter tutorials. I couldn't see any tutorials on this specific topic. I have this white clothed wall: I want a different blood splatter effect to stick on the wall in subsequent fashion after each character has entered. I have the fake blood and want to do the designs myself on other white walls then paste them in, like an overlay. The more actors that come in, the more blood designs are on the wall. How do I achieve the blood on the walls from filming seperate blood designs? (or is there a better way?) How do I deal with actors walking infront of the wall where I want the design to be? As you can see from the picture i've had a real, on set, physical trial already, but unfortunately with the actors coming in at different times the effect doesn't stay as saturated for very long.
  2. Thats it. Only thing is I want cast shadows on the subjects face and the background. How hard is the seperation going to be with only one light pointing upwards towards the subject? Do you know much about the hv30 and what settings I should use to be optimum? Aperture or cinemode ? Should I absoulutely defo not use gain if I want best work done in color correction?
  3. Problem is that was post Here is the none corrected http://img11.imageshack.us/my.php?image=nonq.jpg Whenever I film it now with the exact same set up, and try to replicate the settings, get to post and up the contrast, subject becomes too exposed and the background nowhere near as white. Yes it was intended by the way. Like I said the idea is white background, massive cast shadow, and subject's face not totally destroyed with exposure. Anyway I can get closer to achieving this with any method you can think? How good will post in after effects be as I can't use it on this pc. as it's absolutely smashed.
  4. Been seraching for the right look for this project i'm doing. This is my fav Without color correction ImageShack - Image Hosting :: nonq.jpg With http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/3682/corrected.jpg Can't remember the settings I had on. Probably Cinemode, but i've tried it with the same f stop shutter speed and db that dvmp said I had on. Using hv30. The camera said the f stop was f2.8 and shutter speed was 50 and 6db Don't know if I was using cinemode or whether it's the white balance that was making the difference. The main difference between this and other shots that I took was the fact the background and shadows were able to handle alot of contrast, without damagin the subjects facial tone. The idea behind it, is blazing white background, big shadows and good skin tone from subjects. Whenever I blaze up the contrast on any other shot the background isn't so gleaming white and the subjects face looks exposed to the max I used ulead video studio to color correct as my pc can't handle anything else at moment :) Put contrast to 52/ saturation 6 and hue at 1
  5. I'm filming a short with a hv30 and the image always changes depending on where I place the camera where I choose the aperture mode or shutter speed. Is this a normal problem with the hv30 or my imagination? Anyway I can gain better control without going through the whole hv30 manual control cellphone process etc? I'm using bright flood lights on a white cloth background, emphasising strong glowing background light and shadows, so all this change is annoying. Will I be able to brighten things up in post?
  6. I Capture my DV cameras footage onto the pc with Ulead onto an MPeg, how do I convert it to an xvid, and the kind of nice files with, high quality, low size, the kiddies are all watching today? I used an xvid conversion software but the kind of xvid it was, was completely different from any of the short feature films i'd been downloading that looked and sounded fantastic. WMP recognised it as a different file than the other xvids, as the icon was different and my dvd player that plays xvids wouldn't play it. What is the easiest and most efficient software I could use to convert this massive mpeg into nice xvid. Thanks
  7. Thanks, especially to guys like Adrian Sierkowski This sort of open ended response is exactly what I wanted. I was looking for something that was costless but would stop you in your tracks with it's distinctiveness. and yet keep the talent under quite natural warm light. It's really about playing with this white background to make it "interesting" while at the same time making the actors visually seen so as not to get in the way of a performance. Like Satsuki Murashige typed, you're only filming whats there infront of you. The set, the lighting and post production is what's at my disposal. Are there any websites worth checking out or any more examples, particularly concentrating on an artistic background removed from the performance foreground?
  8. I've been playing around with my hv30, and in a dark room covered with light white cloth i've been tinkering around with trying to get it look impressive set wise. I was wondering if you guys could help me out advice wise. I'm looking to get this place looking striking, perhaps even unnatural and I was wondering what tools are at my disposal with no budget, after effects and a few garden/house lights to play around and experiment with in this wide open task? Is it going to come from: A ) the set itself looking good with lighting (what easy tricks could I use for interesting unnatural looks) smoke etc or B ) in post production with after effects image tinkering? I originally posted this in the Visual Effects area but I think with the cross over to lighting it would be better here.

  10. Films like November and 28 Days Later have really given digital stand up cinematic qualities. What sort of process has this been to have this look? How would the raw footage from a canon xl from movies like this differ from the final product? How much of it is down to lighting or anything else? Thanks
