  1. ok here i go a bit more specific and more technical regarding what and how much light one would want. What light would you use in a situation where early morning light is coming in a room through a glass window? How would you light a washroom, where a character is looking in the mirror. Quite small space with no opening or window.
  2. Is there anyone shooting in Pakistan currently, or have any plans to shoot in Pakistan?
  3. i have only watched Road to Perdition..............and tell you its an awsome piece of work by Conard Hall. Before watching Road to Perdition i had only read bout Conard Hall, but after watching this film i have become his admirer. Awsome work
  4. i thought that was a serious discussion
  5. What is your say about a good composition? or what you concider a balanced frame? How you compose a shot? What things you have in mind while composing a shot? Is it light, colour or what? What are your thoughts about centerized frame, off center? When do you decide weather to compose a character in center or off center? Is it a motivation, what motivates you? Hope you won't mind answering these long and childish questions. saj
  6. I saw people taking sun as backlight (as in case of taking sun as key, talent might not be able look properly, may not be able to open his eyes), closing the aperture and then lit the face by any means. Anywayz its a everyone's taste.... How about interiors? how'd you start with interiors?
  7. Arrrrrrrrrright, another thing, how you start lighting, say to shoot in outdoor, would you expose for the environment/background first, i mean set the appropriate aperture and then bring in the lights or reflectors to expose the character, to lit its face? Is it the fine approach?
  8. It might sound foolish, but as a student i have to ask this. While working, where do you start lighting? Do you start with wide shots first or closer ones first? and do you light environment first or start with the tanlent and then light the character?
  9. What about silk cloth on a frame? One more thing, will different lights behave differently when diffused? Like tungsten or HMI???
  10. What are the materials used to diffuse the light in professional setups? Silk cloth, papers? As a student we are being using butter papers, which i find not comfortable working with. They filter the light in a strange way, and burn quickly (i m into 1000 watt open face tungsten mainly). What materials can one use in a zer0 budget/student level projects?
  11. Hmmmmm..............i got it now, thanks for the replys. So is it a good practice in a zer0 budget student level projects to avail such adapters?
  12. what is the function of the adapter? Is it we mount the adapter in front of the camera, and then screw a lens, say a fixed lens 85mm??? In that way we can use prime lenses on dv cams????
  13. Seems dv cams generally are not capable of mounting other lenses, or come with their own adapters. Can we mount any prime lens say a 35mm on cannon XL 1???
  14. Here is the link of a music video that i directed last year. It was my first project that went on air on all music and local entertainment channels. The camera was Sony D50, and edited in Adobe Premiere. Criticism will be happily accepted
  15. yeah it is on full manual mode.
  16. Here are couple of more screen grabs Another Setup A Wider one All seems very flat, no contrast at all.
  17. A friend of mine is shooting time laps on XL2. He is having some problems "I need to shoot time lapes with XL2 ....but few features like interval timer are locked in menu, any body know how to unlock menu features in canon XL2 waiting for response thank...... " Regards
  18. Wrong forum boss Let me ask in Standard Defination Forum
  19. Well, yah, this particular segment in which i record the interviews, is mainly done on locations. Some times its in offices, or drawing rooms, sometimes outdoor in a park or something. So there is always a problem, u know walls in a drawing room are usually white or batch or something like that. And you know small spaces that u cant create the setup away from walls. Kiarash Sadigh! good suggestions. The still that i posted above is one of the master. I tried to post close ups of this shoot, but this forum didnt allow me to post more than 100 kb. I will try to post more. Should i always light the walls in a way that the characters in the foreground are brighter than the walls and the walls should always be less bright than the foreground characters. In a way to create the contrast.
  20. Frank! that is a good explaintion bro.
  21. Well Michael! that was great reading your reply.....really grateful .... Well yeah i realized that its all about the feel that you'd want, and selection of light depends. And yes its all experience.....truly said But as a student I'd really want to know when or in which situations you'd want a specific light? As a student, we are given 4 or 5 open face 1000 watt tungsten lights , (with 500 watt lamp in my personal bag). Other kit that i have seen here in local studios, they have 1K, 2K, 5K solars, that have built in dimmer,(which i'd say is not worth using, as it has only two stops, hard and soft). Once i went to a shoot of a friend, he used kinos on a closeup of the character. At that time i didn't know why he used this, but it created a good effect. Anywayz.....thanks for the reply, its always very helpful.
