  1. Hey ya I can sympathize with the frustration if a lot of us newbs are potentially scaring off the experienced and wiser. One of the first threads I read here was the DP of Juno (sorry I?m bad with names, no disrespect) talking about his process of making the movie. I loved Juno and loved seeing it from his perspective and I thought ?wow I gotta use this place.? I went to school for production and was one of those people who loved and dabbled in everything but never mastered anything. So right now I?m at a post house as an assistant to a Exec in LA. Been getting back into my writing, going back to that script I wrote in college and dust it off. I think the plan is to pursue writing and if I have some sort of success in that maybe I can use it to try and dabble in more things. I?m just one of those guys that loves it all :)
  2. Tim, I?m very sorry my post caused such a strong reaction I assure you I have nothing but the up most respect for this forum and its members (I tried to state this in my opening paragraph as to not be misinterpreted.) I?m not even looking for a career in cinematography but I?ve loved reading the threads and the expertise in them. I?ve even been able to learn a lot that I can incorporate into the other parts of film making I am pursuing. All I was doing was trying to bring the perspective of someone who is still very new to this forum and try to give some constructive ideas. I was not including myself in a ?set? discussion about cinematography but about a new person coming to the forum (in a discussion that was already started). As for calling one person by their last name and the other by their first it was never intended to be rude and frankly I?m surprised someone took it that way. Wouldn?t it be more polite to call someone by their last name? In all honesty when I was writing my post and I scrolled up and it was the first parts of the names I caught before I went back down to keep typing. Anyways I could go on defending myself more specifically but it?s probably not the proper place to keep going on back and forth over it. I just wanted to let you and anyone else who had such a negative response to my post that I?m sorry you reacted that way it was only intended as an alternative point of view to be helpful. I won?t take up anymore space on this thread but if you want to say anything else to me or have me clarify feel free to send me a message.
  3. All right in an effort to bring a little civility to the debate and in no way to I mean any disrespect to any of you guys (and girls) on this sight, as a film maker myself (not a cinematographer) I?m blown away by your guys knowledge and passion I?ve seen not to mention the quality and celebrity that?s cruising this sight. As a *newb* myself I posted a question without my name being correct and was immediately reprimanded by the ?sherrief? and although for all you regulars who have been on this sight forever can?t seem to fathom how dumb we are for not following the rules but the simple fact is who reads the terms and conditions when they sign up for stuff on the net. You hit register you click the little box and you go on. Everyone does it. The other thing that I personally thought when I signed up was sure I?ll register my real name for the account but that doesn?t necessarily mean I have to use my real name for my ?post name.? In my opinion if you want to get rid of the problem just change the way they sign up, have boxes for first and last name and that becomes the ?post? name automatically, issue averted. Nobody is ?ignoring? the rules like he said, it was just a little naiveté in coming into a new forum. And if you want them read it might be a better idea to pot them by the appropriate boxes when you sign up not in the ?terms and conditions? area I?m sure 95% of people robotically go past. Although it was rude to call Mullen a ?jerk? by Ryan I can definitely agree with the new guys reaction of ?yikes..? I to felt like ?hey jeez, I didn?t know, don?t jump down my throat, sorry.?
  4. Thanks I've given some post houses in my area a call but so far no luck. I've you ever get the cutters please contact me. thanks.
  5. Sorry guys, I?ve updated the info. While I?m sure that many of you guys can?t fathom why us *newbs* can?t grasp the simple rules of putting our real names in I assure you (at least on my part) it?s not out of a lack of caring or defiance but just the simple act of running threw the motions. If you?re like me you surf the web and register for to many things to stop and read every ?terms and rules? file that pops up or search the site to make sure you?re following the proper guidelines. If this gets read by anyone that conducts the website I would have a hopefully helpful suggestion. Make it known that it?s your display name that you need to use your real name for. Many could make the mistake of thinking it?s the profile info that needs to be registered as real and not the display name. In any case I still would love to get any websites or sources that I could get generic workflow charts in each medium.
  6. I need to find some generic workflow charts for feature films, starting with shooting to editing to final print or tape. A little background: Right now I'm working as an assistant to an executive at a post house in LA. He wants me to compile a "reference book" from cameras to file formats to workflow charts all the way to the final print out (if you know of a good source for this even better!). Well I?m stuck on finding some generic workflow charts. I'm aware that every project will have a different workflow I just need the generic step by step for both 35mm and shooting digital. Anyone have anything like that or knows where I might go to obtain one. I've done the camera research and come across a pretty good "reference sheet" for that and since this is the cinematographers forum I?ll post a link because I know some will be interested. I do know it?s slightly outdated. http://www.digitalcinemasociety.com/downlo...arson_Chart.pdf
