  1. Hi I've got a 1kW dedo softlight - does anyone have any good recommendations for pro chinese lanterns please? Thanks Pali
  2. Hi I've got a a couple of 1kW dedo softlights: http://www.dedolight.com/www/assets/images...000SPLUS_01.jpg Im after a silver dish reflector (about 1-2foot diameter) to use with these, but can't seem to find any. I'm ideally after one that looks like the attached image Im using extra thick silver foil to make a dish, but it's not the best option. Does anyone know if such a dish is available to fit the Softlight, or what the reflector in the image is? Cheers
  3. ..OR a 5' dedo octabank with a 1000w softlight - my thinking is that would be a good fill light and could also be used as a side/key??
  4. Im going to be setting up a small set (about 4m x 4m) in a studio and was wondering about fill lighting. I want to be able to achieve both low key http://vienofoto.files.wordpress.com/2008/...y-crewdson1.jpg and high key looks Im thinking that to give me the most flexibility, I could use an overhead Kino Flo (with switchable bulbs) - is this a good plan? I know that I could create fill by bouncing from a high reflector, but the most powerful light I've got is a Dedo 650 which may not have the juice to give me a high key effect when bounced at the settings Im shooting at. If Kino's are a good plan, which would be recommended for this size of set? Im planning on mixing soft and hard sources (eg soft overhead fill but hard directional 'sunlight' through windows in the set Thanks
  5. Hi I've been experimenting to get a haze effect similar to this: http://www.davidmullenasc.com/page4/page6/files/page6_2.jpg and also like the attached file (background diffussion) In both images, there is a nice diffused haze, but clarity in the rest of the scene. I've been using a cheap oil based fog machine, but this creates a way too heavy output which can 'hang' in the air, and cloud the whole scene. Also, as pointed out on this forum, my oil based fog machine causes bad throat irritation for a couple of days after. Is there a hazer machine that people could recommend to achieve these effects, and is 'safe' (eg water based?) The floor area of the studio the the hazer would need to fill is about 800 sq ft I've done a bit of research which led me to this unit which can use water based fluid: http://antari.com/Company%20Profile/Hazers/HZ-400/hz400.html Is this a good buy to achieve the effects Im after? Thanks!
  6. Hi I just saw Blue Velvet again for the first time in ages, and loved the lighting in the apartment scene and am trying to figure it out - (esp the lighting on Jeffrey when he forced to remove his clothes after being discovered hiding in the cupboard, and Frank when he's drinking in the same scene) I know that the cinematographer, Fred Elmes, lit sets for these scenes on a set. I can see where the some sources must have been places (by shadows on faces/floor). Judging by the shadows, there are some hard sources involved, but beyond that Im a bit stuck. Somehow, the feeling seems to bit soft but directional, very painterly, almost like soft evening light. Does anyone here have any insights/light diagrams that they would be kind enough to share? Thank you
