  1. Richard posted the same frothing rant on RedUser, then admitted he didn't even read the legislation. "Forcing people - mainly young, probably not terribly rich people - into bankruptcy and thus perpetual, miserable, life-destroying poverty will do nothing for company coffers, nor will it make a multimillion-pound industry look good as it gleefully destroys the prospects of nearly innocent people." Richard's response: "I have no problem with this at all, sounds good to me. I will ask that a special period of fifteen years in solitary confinement be added to those people that have the audacity to steal my movie for free, and then make posts on the web ripping on it." We are talking about a misdemeanor akin to shoplifting a DVD. Only, there's less to it as a physically printed DVD isn't taken, nor is its packaging and the energy of transporting it around. These draconian penalties are the product of corruption by media conglomerates of the political system. Creating a police state by forcing ISPs to monitor everyone's internet is fascistic and totalitarian. None of this is good. It's a sharp down hill slope from there.
  2. There are several ways. I was thinking you may want to think about the angle as they break the glass. From behind would be easiest, I think. You could get from if there was a camera right outside the skyscraper on a crane shot, and that could look good, or even from ground level, or across from another building. I know you can make a breakable (and edible) clear glass pane with sugar water. I've been wanting to try that, and actually crash through a pretty big one. Maybe someone knows where to get a really big perfectly flat tray to form it in? For behind them, you could have them run and jump off a platform, with the green screen in front of them. Composite in a glass layer shattering out, rotoscoping out their forms. That seems simplest, to me, but not the most spectacular approach.
  3. It sounds like you're in deep. Did she write a spec script which she gave to the project without any compensation? Sounds like she IS a "producer." Since she has you over a barrel, without making it any worse, you should give her the credit before she starts asking for money! The jurisdiction matters if you try and distribute in the US.

  5. Religion seems to send some people off the deep end. As for "The Bible," you surely must have noticed quite a bit of gibberish and contradictory concepts in there? Anyone? Personally, I love the term "religious zealot." Oh, and that Jesus guy did tell me that the poor would inherit the earth.
  6. I found one test online comparing sound between RodeNTG3 and Senn 416. I don't have the link, but I definitely preferred the 416. I'd rather rent one of those than have to shoot on the Rode.
  7. I think you're looking for hyperfocal distance. I'd like to learn more about that too. Here's an article explaining.
  8. "Find interesting locations and use the background to give the shot depth. When in doubt, move closer." I like that. What I do is try and envision two things, foreground and background. Sometimes they will shift during the shot to some new foreground and/or background of course. But, by clearly getting a handle on what you would like to convey (to the audience) via foreground and/or background, you may better plan your shots. Often the most memorable shots are memorable because of something communicating to the audience without words, something they didn't know coming into the scene, and which moves the story forward opening up lots of possibilities. This information might be unseen by a character on screen, but seen by the viewer. Or vice-versa. It should all be worked out at script stage, and is the essence of good screenwriting. Now, if you have a crap script...
  9. Thanks guys. I guess I need to find "the zone" where the anamorphics and sphericals match up the best. It may take a lot of testing. The grid pattern is a good idea. I want to get this right so it can be done on the cheap.
  10. Here's the situation. Compositing a green-screened miniature that's blown up 12-15x onto a landscape (say: the squirrel that ate Manhattan). I'd like the bulk of the film (the landscape) to be shot on anamorphic. Does this make it impossible to pull off the composition? Some advice suggested the miniature should be a shot on a very short 10mm or so lens in order to get enough DOF to keep the miniature in focus. Are there anamorphic lenses that short? Can some miniature elements be shot with spherical lenses, or will this pop out like a sore thumb and blow the whole effect?

  13. In all seriousness: I would change the title. I can't see the masses showing up for "Determinism." An "ism?" Sort of weighs heavily in the bad way. Good luck.
