would the sync sound Leicina camera project help with the situation? how large of a customer base they would need to be interested in offering new stocks in the D8 format?

the availability of stock is very critical for the D8 format I think. As I know the only easily available emulsion at the moment is the Fomapan b/w reversal.

But maybe someone else could do the perforating work to standard 16mm color negative stock even if Kodak is not interested? could ORWO or FOMA do this type of work? I asked from ORWO about their perforating services a couple of years ago and the minimum orders were pretty reasonable sounding. I think it was couple of thousand euros minimum which would be pretty reasonable if one would get for example 7203 in Dual8 format, there would be lots of people purchasing it I'm sure ?  I'm not sure if ORWO has perforating tools for D8 but at least the Foma has because they are doing their own D8 stock as well.

The D8 color negative could be developed in standard 16mm lab machine in any lab. one could slit the film at home with one of those Lomo tools, even I have one of them even when I don't shoot D8 at the moment. So the perforating work is the only challenge there is.

Maybe if the Leicina project materializes this year, then a batch of stock could be arranged as well to support the camera?

An american guy had a batch Kodak color film perforated by Wittner.  Cost a ton. Then shipping out and back.  Short rolls are available from his website. Costing considerable.

If organised it needs to be efficient. I.e. you order a batch from Kodak in Germany, have it sent to Orwo directly who then deliver to you. Hopefully they can fix it on 7,5 metre spools too ?   Processing in EU can then be done by www.super8.nl

It is my firm belief that Kodak could sell more Ektachrome in Double-Eight than in 16mm and Super-8 together, if they’d offer it.

It shouldn't be too difficult to manufacturer R-8 or DS-8 from the 16mm bare strips they have as in between product. If they still have the perforators ? Spools are easier to produce or handle than S8 cartridges I would think.

Their sales data from the past may have indicated that there is no viable consumer market for these.  So somebody else has too take the risk. Unfortunately the small producers will triple the cost per foot.

Are you sure that's a hair? It looks very straight and at a perfect 45° angle. I have seen several camera that have a markers / needles like that one so you can get some kind of information when you see trough the viewfinder.

Seems more like what you suggest.  A rough calculation from the images comes to 0.12mm   Fairly thick for a hair, unless from a thick haired animal.

Also, is there an easy way to dust off the ground glass.  Mine definitely has some hair and spots on it.

When you take off the lens the ground can been seen sitting to right. When it is swung in.

You could attempt to brush or blow. Don't push too hard and don't overdo as the blowing may displace the dust further on.

  5. martin,  7 feet is a rather big one.

There was an article on phtographing from post war V2 rockets just this last issue of Fotografica PhT magazine. First time they managed to photograph the curve of Earth (believe it or not ?  )  Cameras were very sturdy as there was no parchuting down after the high rise.

I have seen some discussion of a much smaller 70-ies ciné rocket which had a special S8 camera built in. Looking down from the rocket. Just to see the onlookers disapper in the distance. It was very basic but also had a special cartridge with just a few feet of S8 which had to be DIY fill with S8 which I suppose had to be cut from a standard cartridge. Who did processing of these or who kept a few of these clips.

Drone options have been discussed too. Using a late compact like Fujica P2 or other mostly plastic things was then the suggestion. Use AAA or connect the drone power. Take off all trimming et cetera. Stop and start.  Seems people with plenty budget just want to send it up with the camera running from the start and then for 3 minutes.

It seems tasking these heavy lifting drones with a the few 100 gramms aren't a problem anymore. Main focus seems now to make simple things more complicated and adding weight. ?

  6. If the drone has no switches then remote control is possible through 27mc equipment. It all depends on the distance. Also there are IR remote controls. New and vintage.  Nikon had ML-1 IR and MW-1 radio.

Also there delayed start and shot-length controllers. Even from the original S8 era.

  7. You have a problem. I don't see why would I start questioning suppliers of goods which I don't have.

If your camera wasn't adapted you cannot charge Li-ion batteries in-camera.

    Good luck.

I purchsed a 4008ZMII with an eneloop based battery replacement.  I bought it from a European seller who says that the manual indicates a mode or switch I have to engage for the camera to charge the battery.  It came with the 'headphones' style jack that goes into the camera in the back like the original.  Is that true?  Is there a switch I engage to divert power to the batteries?

Also, is there an easy way to dust off the ground glass.  Mine definitely has some hair and spots on it.

On a standard camera there is no switch. These extreme batteries are best charged outside camera.

It is meaningless to have such big batteries. The standard 300mAh can do some 10-15 films. Possibly more according to the original instructions.   Who exposes more than five films in a day?

    Didn't the seller supply instructions?

    I don't know

Keeping a web site up and running, especially one that's even remotely interactive (even if it's in read-only mode) is a lot of work and still needs to be patched and updated as the underlying OS is updated or security vulnerabilities are discovered, so it's not a simple matter of paying a few bucks a year to leave it visible. Respectfully, I'd say give the site's maintainers a break.

I am aware how websites work. I have several.

    Super-8 is not easily outdated.

Just abandoning the content created by so many users in so many hours is vandalism.  Filmshooting has lots of bogus in its archive but there are also many well discussed useful topics. Curious enough I researched a bit on keeping a copy in PDF or static HTML of the documenting threads but unfortunately it just stopped like that.

Transporting simple html sites like super8man and super8data is not much work and keeping a copy online barely a thing.

    We'll see what comes.

  10. Anybody got a clue about the filmshooting.com forum? Is has been in maintenance for months and months. It is a bit of an archive of pre facebook super-8 discussions. For good and bad. Also the super8man archive is hidden behind this shutdown. What is the trouble with having a sub-directory with static content open?

The same with this idiot who just abandoned super8data. Not just the domain but the content too. All with these lame made-up excuses. How can $15 for a domain be too much and how difficult was it to just keep the public contributed data on a local disk and have this posted elsewhere?

  11. Indeed curious. Obviously the M-model needs far more back-focus-distance than the C. Apparently Schneider had various set-ups for several destinations. The M might possibly fit some digital still camera's too ?

Finding an adapter to put it on D-mount or others with short distances to flange shouldn't too difficult. There so many adapters these days.

Mind that the retro-lens on the rear doesn't move for focussing. That is all done in the front part.

  12. Time flies when holding your breath ?

I have no news. I am not expecting it will ever come to production.

There is just no market at a workable price. Logmar sold only 50 with a lot of waiting between orders.  There are so many better proven camera's at less than Euro 500 that a new severely limited ability thing at Euro 2000-3000 will not sell enough to have a production run get past beta models ?

Happy New year using a Nikon R10, Canon 1014XLs, Leicina Special et cetera.
