Hello all, I've been put on a crew last second and slapped with the title "Swing Master". I have know clue what this position is or entails. I'd like to at least know what my title is and a little bit about what I'm supposed to do before i show up and make myself look like a fool. Thanks, Oblivious newbie.

Hey there! I am writing a paper on Tim Maurice-Jones in my cinematography class. The paper requires me to give some biographical information on him but this is posing difficult because I cant seem to find anything on him. So I figured I might give a shout out to my fellow forum members for some help. Does anybody know anything about Tim Maurice-Jones that they would like to share, or know of any links or books where I could find more information on him and/or his work? This was my first thought but i thought I might not be because in Sherlock Holmes the camera was shooting the character from a profile and seemed a little far away for a Snorricam, but I could be wrong.

I'm curious to find out if this is a camera rig or camera movement that makes this effect or if it is a effect that is created in post. The first time I saw this was in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). The scene where the characters are running through the forest away from bullets and explosions. The shots are a profile of the characters and the camera is tracking with them. I know that it is speed ramped but the most interesting part is that when the characters jump over fallen trees and dodge things the camera stays fixed on there head. Then the other day I saw another use of this movement in this music video. At 2:40 you can see what i am talking about. The three people are "snap walking"? down a hallway. They bounce up and down and the camera bounces with them fixed on the head. Does anybody have any idea how this is done? I would really like to recreate it sometime. Thanks! -Sean

That's very true. I don't know why I didn't think of that. ok well cool. I guess that solves my problem, but I'm still extremely curious to see what some others can bring up. I knew the "over and over" but I like the over and under better. Thanks But the cables that run onto my camera are not xlr. It's a few cable (which I don't know the name of) tied together with zip ties. So the over and under method would not work with this size of cable. They are the cables that we run from the camera, down the hall to our control room, which feeds the video into our monitor system and then we capture it. If that makes since, I'm trying to explain the setup to the best of my knowledge :rolleyes: Hope that helps, -Sean lyons

Ok everybody I have this annoyance. After I get done recording a broad cast for my churches cable show I go to pack up my tripod and wrap up my cord that was just run across the church and back. As of right now I'm just wrapping it into a big neat circle. I've tried to be creative and did a figure eight once. hehe But both tend to be time consuming and sometimes irritating. So my question to all is, is there a "method/technique" or pattern to wrapping my cords that would make my troubles disappear? Any sort of on-set trick to wrapping a large amount of cord up in a timely and neat fashion. If there are any neat/impressive patterns that would make me look like a BAMF then plz by all means let thy cometh forth and speak, for we are not worthy. :P Thanks for reading! Hello all, I am looking for any sort of experience I can find in the DFW area. I have very little "Professional" experience. I'm a wannabe! I have the love, will-power, work ethics, and that "can do attitude." I would be completely giddy if I even got the chance to be the guy in the corner of the sound stage that is in charge off making sure that the coffee pot stays full, and that everybody has a full cup if it means I get the chance to be around people that love film/media as much as I do. :rolleyes: I will gladly be the door holder for crew members or sweep the floors in the event of a mess. I'm serious i'll do ALMOST anything :rolleyes: and without pay*** I live in the DFW area and can take a drive if needed. I'm currently going to college, working on my associates degree. Just to throw in my input. I found it entertaining enough. It served its purpose and reached out and grabbed who it was focused for. I did it's job and thats it. Not a great movie but ok. Worth a watch. I would give it around a 6 out of 10 And on the spider man 3 topic..... 8 out of 10 people shake their heads in shame when "spiderman 3" comes into a conversation. "Swing!...and a miss!" :lol:

I recently bought the HVR-HD-1000U. It's a very good starter camera and very easy to use. Most enjoyable feature is the beautiful picture. Also not too shabby in the night shot. Hope you find what your looking for. Good luck, Sean Lyons

Hello all, I recently bought a Sony HVR-HD100U and have some questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with. First matter of business, please let me know if I am posting this topic in the wrong forum. I was guessing that my camera would qualify as a "HD" cam so I'm taking a swing in the dark. Second matter of business. This is the first camera I've owned that can hold the title as "semi-pro" (if it is considered that). Anyways, this is a step up from my mothers sony handycam I've been using for the past years. So on that note any answers that I may get, I beg of you sir's (or madam's) take mercy on my virgin cinematographer skills and knowledge. :P Third matter of business. (DON'T READ THIS SECTION IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT MY "STORY" If you haven't read any of my post then you should know I like to let you know a little about my self, as if to set a back story in your mind so feel as if your helping out a distant friend you havent talked to in a good while, instead of some random kid on a forum who asks A LOT of questions...So that being said, here we go. I'm 18. recently found my love for film when I became a "techie" in the Technical Theatre class at my high school. I became very involved, and quickly learned that i was a thespian at heart! I also learned that I wasn't too shabby at stage design. I learned all the aspect of the stage and everything you needed to know about the "backstage lifestyle & working style" I then became friends with some people that were in a media tech. class we had available. That was the introduction to the film world. My eyes were opened and realized that I would enjoy film more than theatre. Sadly I didn't have any room for the class. Graduated high school and now stuck with trying to find as much experience as possible. played around with friends making a "youtube" style production team and make videos when ever I can. My love for this is great. for example I just spent $1700 on this camera. enough said. I'm looking to take my love and turn it into a career (side note: email me if anybody wants to help lyonspsean@gmail.com ;) ) So this camera is my first real big step, woot woot! Fourth and final matter of business. My new camera!! It's a beauty! So far I have enjoyed every minute of it. Unfortunately I have already had one scare with it. I was using it and it just "froze" It was still on but it wouldnt respond to anything. It could zoom in and out but that was it. I toggled between the features and even attempted to turn off the LCD screen but that didnt even respond. Finally I disconnected my battery in a final attempt to shut her down. It started up fine as if nothing happened. Anybody know what happened? Ok, from here on I'm just going to lay out my questions and hope they get answered. Thanks in advance! - I've seen video shot with this camera using the slow motion feature. Is it only the "3 second slow shot" or is it something else? How would I go about finding/using this? - I've also seen video of the time-lapse feature. Tell me how, o' mighty ones!! - Can my lens be changed or am I limited to lens converters only? - Random question- Is there such thing as a left handed "left eyed" camera? just curious.. - What is the difference between CMOS and 3CCD? Is one better then the other? - Should I have asked these questions before I purchased my baby? (the camera) - What can I add on to this camera? Put on the shoes? Anything else cool and/or nifty? - Will Obama make a good President? - Are there any "Cool and/or Nifty" features I haven't mentioned or may not know about? - What is the point of having still image capture on a video camera? - If I turn my shutter speed to the slowest setting will I achieve a Time-lapse look? - Would you sell your virginity on Ebay? If so, how much? ( I would, for the price of 1 million dollars!!!! (in dr. evil voice)) B) Ok, I'm done ranting. Again thank you in advance for any and all help that I receive. so you tell me not to be discouraged about not having sound but then you turn around to try and discourage me about film..? wtf !? lol but i do appreciate your advice, i know the down sides but i am a very visional man. i dont plan to shoot "just" film. its just a starting point to get my basics down and then it will be a neat addition to the collection. but thanks anyway, Sean

hey guys my uncle found this camera in his garage and said I could have it but with one condition. that i found the film for it. so my question is (obviously) that does anybody still make the film for the camera? it would be awsome if somebody could help me because this camera seems to be in pretty good shape!! thanks in advance!!!

ok. cool. I've had a 35mm film slr for a while. i started out liking photography because my mom is sort of a photography nut. So i have some of those basic tools. but i don't have light meter. Do you know where i can find one for cheap? and the spot reader? same thing? And you said if i don't under stand something just ask, well I don't know what foot candles are and f spots. I'm going to guess that comes later in the game? haha So... basically im going to do anything you guys tell me too haha i'm just glad i already have most of the expensive stuff i'm going to need. and a question about the forum. Can i just reply to the posts or is it "proper" to quote the post im talking about?

I kind of thought that way for a little bit. But yea, like you said I got distracted with the equipment. I've always watched movies and enjoyed different styles and watching the movie deeper than just for your average viewing if that makes sense. I knew in the back of my mind I needed to find and practice "my style". But you just brought it to realization. ;) But I like how you put that, "Uniform" kinda play the part.. I'm defiantly going to do that now. I looked at The American Cinematographer Manual VOL.2 I think it was... Would that be a good book to study? Well I thank you for your input. You brought a new way of thinking to life for me, as weird as that sounds :P So thank you my friend!!!!

OK just to give you an idea of what your working with... I'm 18, starting college next week. EXTREMELY in love with the film world. I think I have an eye for cinematography and want to be involved. The only camera i've had my hands on is my moms little handy cam. Which i've made a few "youtube" quality videos. And occasionally got my hands on some equipment from my high schools media tech. department thanks to friends. So to sum all that up. I have the love. Have the will. And I want it more than anything. So my question is, what do I need (equipment 1st) to get started? I was going to start with a camera. Looked at the canon XL2. Im in the $2000- $3000 range. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advanced!! :D
