Thanks!!
Regarding the strobes. There where no actual strobes on the set, those are all posted in After Effects sine I knew I would have a hard time syncing actual strobes to the cameras shutter. The ironic thing is that after uploading the finished video to vimeo I noticed the same kind of strobe-problem that I was trying to avoid. Not sure why but on some frames only half the screen gets strobed. I?m guessing it has to do with vimeos 24fps conversion of my original 25fps material? When I look at the uncompressed video om my TV the strobe looks fine.
I?ll see if I can fix the vimeo video in a few days.
To create the strobe in After Effects I used exposure control on an adjustment layer and added a wiggle expression with a frequency that was about the same as the double bass pedals. Then i linked the expression to a expression slider-control and keyframed where I wanted the strobeeffect and how strong I wanted it to be.
About the lighting setup... It was very simpel, I can almost say that what you see is what you get since most of the lamps are shown in the frame. I did not have much time to work with the lights. Basicly I tried to always have at least one strong backlight in the frame to make the performer appear as a sillhouette. And then I had moving fill light:
I set up a bunch of work lights straight behind each member of the band, letting the light face straig towards the camera.
The spots in the cealing that you see during the refrain are built in practicals that where there to begin with.
I had two tiny kinos for fill light. I had people holding and moving during closeups to make the shadows come and go on the singers face.
In the wider shots I had two redheads, usually pointed at the singer to make him stand out a bit in the picture.
