  1. Rik, Thanks for the advise. Maybe one day when I get to 917 I can meet up with you. The movie is slated to begin shooting March 11th - 13th. I will let you know how it turns out. Thank you very much. Eric Quao Camera, PA, Director, Master Control
  2. You're right lighting is key in all cinematography Mr. Andino, We talked before on a previous occasion. When shooting a movie in black and white is it better to shoot in color first to get the lighting correct and then go back in post to add the b/w effect or just shoot the entire movie in b/w? Also, does the DVX-100 allow you the option to shoot in black and white? I talked to your partner Roy about that but he told me to ask you since you have done some work with it and know it's features. Thanks Eric
  3. Hello, I'm new to the game. I will be shooting my first film as a DP for a 30 minute min dv film. It will be a two camera shoot. I would like to know what other equipment, as a DP, I will need for the shoot? I know I need cameras but what would be a good lighting and boom mic kit that I should use. Also, what would be a good lavelier mic to use? Do you know where I can find a good slate board? I would like to know the essentials, the little knick-knack stuff that will take this from an ok film to a great film shot on mini dv that will an award (I would like to win one but you understand where I'm coming from). I really would appreciate it if someone could help me. Thanks Eric
  4. Ladies and Gentleman, I'm helping some friends do research on renting cameras for thier first movie. They want to rent 24p prosumer cameras (DVX 100, XL2). My question is: 1. What other cameras are there besides the DVX 100 and XL2 that shoot 24p? 2. Where can I rent them from? I from NJ so I would have to find something close to tri-state area of Delaware, NJ, PA, or even MD. 3. Where can I find a Boom Mic kit and lavelier mics to rent. If you could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
  5. Good day to all of you, I would like to know where I can find the most affordable rental for a mini dv that shoots 24fps? Can you help me with my search. Thanks
  6. Mr. Ballard, Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm glad that there are knowledgable people within this community. Where are you from? I'll make make sure to relay the message to the director. Once again, thank you. I have another question. How can find out the cost of transferring mini dv to film for just a 1/2 hour film. The number you gave to me in your reply was 90 minutes. This conversation has opened my eyes. I have final cut XP. Would I be able to use the filters in XP make the dv look like film? Or could I just rent the DVX-100A (which shoots 24p) to save money?
  7. Hello, Good day to all of you (well whoever reads this). I am going to be shooting my first movie. My question is, would it be cheaper to shoot 16mm or shoot mini dv and then have it transferred to film. The film is in black and white. I'm just the shooter (cinematograhpy / DP debute). I need to know as much information as possible. I would greatly appreciate your help. Any and all types of resources (books, websites, magazines, or contacts) is what I'm asking for. Thanks 1. How much stock I would for a 1/2 hour film? Whether it's 100 or 400 feet. 2. What is the best 16mm camera to rent? 3. Is shooting 16 different than mini dv? If so, how do I learn about shooting with 16mm? From cleaning and lubricating, to loading the magazines, to shooting, and reading time codes. You can tell I'm an amatuer from the dumb questions.
