  1. Hi guys, I want to apply to Academy of Art University (AAU) and New York Film Academy (NYFA) for MFA FILM PRODUCTION, concentrating on Cinematography. I just want to learn some hands-on experiences and lessons. I mean, I am not the kind of student who are eager to know theory or history of film. What i hope i could absorb from my MFA study is the ability of controlling every kind of camera, lighting equipment, and those are used on the set. Maybe it's a little exaggerated. But i just want to touch all sorts of cameras, 16mm, super 16mm, 35mm, and even digital ones. I think it's the essential step to let my dream come true, being a DP. AAU and NYFA are both recommended by my friends. They told me both of them offer and focus on teaching lessons very practical and to some extent look something like training. That's what i need. But i have no idea choosing whether AAU or NYFA. But the requirements of both them for application are too easy. That is to say, unlike USC, UCLA or AFI, applicants are unlikely to be accepted for most of them. Yet, AAU and NYFA welcome and accept almost everyone as long as the applicants do it. Can someone give me some suggestions or advices which one i should choose and apply to? Don't consider the expense of the study and life. That's minor. I heard something from my friend who graduated from AAU couple of years ago majored in Film Production. According to what i have told him my goal, he said AAU practically has the most comprehensive and advanced production equipments available to students. As for NYFA, I only get information that the school will arrange 35mm training in the curriculum as well as AAU. I'm Asian, never been the USA, so I hope you guys could give me proper analysis about my situation and advise something besides recommending me that i needn't go to film school if i want to entry this film industry. Thank you!
  2. Hi guys, Thank you for what you've done! But i think you have not solved my problems. I just want to know the name, professional definition, of the camera position, especially in the TV industry. Because i'm drafting my profile for my application, so i need to mention my professional experience, including servicing as a cameraman in shows. But i only know the names people call here in my country, China, in Chinese, but i don't know what you people call the position in professional way and in English. What i'm applying aims to be accepted by the organizations in English speaking country. So i need everything on my profile is accurate and professional in English. So, can anybody supply me information what i need more precise? What's the names of all camera positions in a TV show? Thank you. (I HOPE I EXPLAIN MY QUESTION ADEQUATELY CLEAR!)
  3. hi all, here's a question. i just want to know the professional words of all positions of cameramen in a studio shooting. For instance, what's the name of the cameraman carrying the camera on his shoulder and moving all the time to catch the proper moment with a camera assistant following and helping him, which is quite different from steadycam? Another example is the fixed camera position, i know it's always fixed in a studio. And it shoots by zooming in and out without any motion. But i have no idea what is its professional name. Anybody knows the names? or who knows that kind of website provides information in this field? Thank you very much!
