  1. Interesting idea. Not sure if acrobat has that functionality. I can certainly try though. I'll let you know.
  2. Hey John, thanks for the suggestion. I can easily add something like this. It might be implied since I do have resolution choices per clip in the pulldown menus, but it never hurts to have more information choices. (btw i do provide those choices on our spec sheets if you would like to check those out) Thanks again, Mike
  3. yes. if you did not shoot the images in 24p (in hdv it' essentially 59.94 with a 3/2 flag) then you need to do a conversion process. There is a methodology in compressor but it's very slow, like 30 to 1 ratio or something. You could also do a teranex realtime conversion, which is what we often do for this type of work. 60i to 24p is a tricky process.
  4. consider that you are windowing the chip when you shoot 2:1 and you still need to crop further to get 2.35. shooting 16x9 would give you more ability to pan and scan vertically while giving you max resolution. You could also use 16x9 ff for that deliverable rather than cropping from 2:35. same goes for 4x3. not sure how that would affect your framing, but it is similar to a film scan for 1:33 that uses more headroom than its 1.85 theatrical counterpart.
  5. There are many many ways to keep an anamorphic image looking great during a 2K DI if the scanning and filmout are done correctly.
  6. It will be shot out squeezed at 1828x1556, to the academy portion of the neg, for anamorphic print projection. If the DI is done correctly it will never be unsqueezed during post, only electronically unsqueezed to view the image properly.
  7. Has the film been color graded? The least expensive way to submit a finished piece for filmout would be in an uncompressed quicktime format 1920x1080 23.98, broken down into 20 minute reels. Make sure audio matches and make sure there's a 2 pop and tail pop on each reel. If it has been color graded (I assume in apple color?) it may be worth a day in the DI room or daVinci room to do a final pass. If that's not a possibility due to cost, the submitted quicktime would be shot out as is, using an inverse lut (lin to log). The reason uncompressed works best is because it is most compatible, but also because you don't want to recompress hdv into another codec. If you don't have a filmout house give us a call or send me a note. Mike Brodersen FotoKem 8188463101
