  1. Thanks Guys for the replys

I am winding the film on myself so I know I have to load it in total darkness(no wobble).

They should have 110 on them from the factory. There is a lot of space left.

Wow 220'? How thin in that gigabit film Simon?

I know I've got more than 110' so I guess it's not safe???

  2. Hello

I have a reflex bolex and I spend a lot of time trying to get the focus correct. It's one

of the early ones so the viewfinder is quite dim when stopped down even a little.

Maybe with the non reflex cameras people get more shooting done and worry less

    about getting focus absolutely correct.

  3. Hi Fran

Yes the guy I talked to(not sure if it was Dieter) there did explain the procedure. Essentially completely disassembling the camera, running it through a ultrasonic cleaner, then re lubrication and adjustment. I suppose he

    would collimate lenses also.

Yes I also got a quote from Bernie. His quote was less than half and from what I've read about him he is pretty through. I don't think he would do the "spray lube thing".

So what's the diff here? I don't get it.

    Dennis

  4. Wow, 10,000 feet? And that was all mag stripe?

Can you put the pressure plate on a scanner? I would love to see it.

    Thanks

    Ditto.

I have one here but no digicam to show you - about 10,000' of Plus X has been past it

The cost of a new pressure plate is the cost of a secondhand Bolex J which is usually less than $100US - everyone I have bought thus far has had a pristine plate ...

  5. Hi Brian

    Thanks for the reply.

So you don't think that the mag stripe would be too abrasive?

I've had the pressure plate out and looked it over. It really looks nice considering the

age of the camera. 60's I think. Not sure of the metal in the plate. Wonder if it's anodized

    aluminum or steel?

Well since mag stripe was discontinued quite a while ago I should think that most of this film

is probably fairly old. This is a VNF1 film so it's probably newer than some.

  6. Thanks all for all the posts.

I've had some offers to do the work now and most of them are less than half

of what I was previously quoted.

So I'm not sure what to think.

Hi Dave your post caught my eye. I was going to post a new thread about the pros and cons

    of using mag stripe film.

Seems it would wear on the pressure plate after a while. After all rust is abrasive.

I wonder how abrasive silver oxide is?

  7. Thanks Tim

I think I'm beginning to get the picture.

I guess the arri has a little more going on inside than the bolex. Probably

    no less precise though.

Just thought lubricating the take up spindle wouldn't be that difficult.

Probably a lot more inside needs it to since this is an old camera.

  8. I just got a quote from procam in prescott AZ for cleaning and lubricating my bolex. :(

    $495 :o

    ouch

My bolex take up reel was running a little too slow. Film backed up and jammed. ;)

Maybe I'm a little out of touch here but this seems a little extreme. :P

Are these typical repair fees to expect for the bolex?

  9. Thanks Guys

First off I wouldn't think of doing this kind of thing for an actual school project. Unless....... <_<

Second I don't actually have these films, just wondering out of curiousity.

Doesn't any one here have a experimental nature

Third I have done more than my fair share of E6 processing at home. I find it a very well

behaved process. The temperature deal is not a problem for me.

Seriously though I think E6 is a very nice process and wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone.

  10. Ok thanks for all the help.

I did get a reply from someone at film rescue international.

    quote:

    Hello

Yes we can. A variant of ME-4 designed to increase contrast

    All the best

    Greg

So I guess one lab is offering to try. They haven't replied as to the cost.

You are all probably right. Just a 400ft roll of leader. Bad leader at that :P
