  1. I nearly only see American/British cinematogrpahers mentioned here who mostly do/did Hollywood cinema. Let's not forget people like Vadim Yusov ('Andrei Rublev') and Alexander Knyazhinsky ('Stalker') who did some amazing work in Russia. Their work might not be as accessible, but they are at least equal to anyone mentioned here before.

    Yep......

  2. I heard the chief editor from ASC was writing a book on Mr. Willis. Does anybody have any information on this? Thanks.

I've been studying his work again and for me there is no one in all of film history that I envy more then Mr. Willis. I've read the few interviews on line that I can find and the interviews in the few books. If anybody knows where I can find additional interviews I would really appreciate it.

I was looking at Broadway Danny Rose earlier tonight and frankly nothing comes near it for my money. You can keep films such as Seven, Delicatessen, Babel, etc.......

Forgive me for putting down the above films - as we all know it's damn hard to make a film. But Jesus I really miss the kind of work Willis did. That elegant simplicity. I feel so raped by most of the films I see these days. Just bludgeoned by the camera.

Sorry to have gotten off point.

  3. Hi guys,

I've decided to part ways with one of my most prized posessions, the inspirational, informative, and beautifully put together book Screencraft: Cinematography by Peter Ettedgui. It's a part of the Screencraft series and has been out of print for a while. It is extremely hard to find, I got my copy for $100 from a seller in Singapore! There are two copies used on Amazon.com starting at $181!

I'm asking for $75. The book is in excellent, pristine condition. Let me know if you would like pictures of it or if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

    Ray

  4. Hi Nada - I'm a screenwriter/director. I've written a number of features over the years. I would say in general try to feel what you write. Another thing I've done in the past when first fishing for an idea is I would put myself into a meditation - I'm sure on the net you can find out ways to do this. Just a deep relaxation. Then I wait for a location to appear in my mind. Say a boardwalk in winter. I would then see if someone shows up. Then I would ask them if I could tell their story. Just a method I've found to lower the worm and hook into the unconscious.
