    Tape Vs.

Tape Vs. Memory card Lp Vs. Sp I have never recorded on any of these formats for a while now. The main reason, I don't use cameras. I'm more of a director. I'm just trying to make an HD 2min. short film but, I don't know which format is better. Which has better image quality; -Mini DV Tape; and with this there are two choices Lp or Sp? -Memory Card
  2. I thought you could buy a lens to get the 1.85 & 2.35 aspect ratios. I also found the RED camera, Scarlet. Which is coming out pretty soon. What do you think of this one? POSSIBLY, the S35. - Which is what I am aiming for, reading other reviews. But, price is letting me down. If not, I will have to go with the 2/3" Cinema.
  3. After several months, I am still undecided upon which camera to purchase. I would much rather wait longer and hear more opinions then purchase one that I feel is right then later down the road find one costing slightly more or less, yet being much better. I am purchasing my first Professional Camcorder. Without any additional accessories such as lighting, etc. I am trying to achieve the film look in HD. I am not too sure as what I really need. Perhaps if you asked me some general questions as to what would be needed and so forth, I would say if I would need it or not. But, I do know some things that I do require; - NTSC - HD; 1080p or 720p minimum. - 24fps - 1.78:1 (16:9) & 1.85:1 & 2.35:1 If its programmed that's great. If not, lens purchase will be required. - Shoulder mount Preferred* If It does not have a shoulder mount, I will need to purchase one. - 3CCD - Record on a format that will not require additional expensive accessories to transfer onto computer (XP). Preferred. - Good night recording *Selected few movies that are good, will be made on 35mm Film.* Shooting all types of movies; - Action (Fast passed) - Horror (Able to change colour for mood) - etc. Company preferred? None. Preferred Size/Weight? None. I will have shoulder support. I am not too sure as what else I would require. But, I would be better off having additional things on a camcorder then fewer as upgrades in the future might be possible. And having everything plus more would not require upgrades, or as much.
  4. We are currently making a home theater in our house, and I want to make it a 2.35:1 screen. But, I need a lens for the projector. I dont really know how much these lenses cost or where to get them. I looked and couldn't find it. Could you help me out? *lowest price please.
  5. I'll um, keep on looking for now. Not quite what I am looking for as of yet.
  6. oh, what wonderful ideas. <_< The last one seemed to be decent, it was getting somewhere, but not quite. "A serial killer flight attendant kills couples that attempt to have sex in the tiny airplane bathroom." Not a bad start, change some things in that idea, making it a bit more realistic in a commercial plane. And POSSIBLY something might come out from it. "A plane carrying the vice president gets hijacked, but nobody cares." Ha-Ha. Possible to do, as I do have access to private Jets. BUT, Hijacking plane movies are too common. Plus, I need to make this as life like as possible in todays world. Before it was easier, but now its changed. Airplane III would be awesome! haven't even seen #II yet. I actually had some ideas for a 3rd. But, not a major story plot to it. *Just had to add this: "Godzilla... on a m*****-f****** plane!" ON the plane? Ha-Ha! A movie of how he got Into the plane.
  7. I would like to hear some advice as to from whom would be the best to make a website from. I dont know how to make one myself, and would like it professionally made. I made one for free to see how it would look like, but its not that good. Does anyone know where someone would make a professional website for me for cheap? can you also tell me how much they charge if you know? *For a Director* Also, I do some photography, do you think I should have photographer and director on the same site, or two separate links to different fields (Photographer - Director) or (Photography - Film & Movies)... something like that Or just Have like everything in one? thanks
  8. Near where I live, are a few movie studios. One of the studios have two plane sets. One for a commercial plane, and the other is a private jet. I was thinking of making a movie on a plane but, I need some help in making this film. (approx. 90min. long) My first idea was more of a thriller where bad things start occurring on the plane such as lights turning off, masks fall, plane going crazy and stuff. I have some great ideas but I was having some troubles with the main plot. WHY are the people on the plane, where are they going, why, etc. I also have some basic ideas, and dont want to spoil it just yet. So, if anyone has any general ideas such as who its happening to, why, where they are traveling to , why, etc. Basically the main plot of the story. I would like to hear some of your opinions/ideas.
  9. I have been planning before to attend film school in a priate college or some other film focused school. But these programs cost from $17,000 up to $35,000 a year. So, I decided to take a step back and go to a college near where I live and study film. It may not be as much education here as in a standard film school. I am applying to Sheridan College in Oakville, Ont. Canada for this Fall, or Winter of '09. I need some help in writing a professional looking portfolio/resume for application. I need help with what to write, how to write it, what to include, what not to include, style of writing, etc. I can take your advice, or if you can hook me up with a website that will tell me and show examples if possible. Here is the information from Sheridan College: http://www1.sheridaninstitute.ca/students/...1099-public.pdf *I am going into Advanced Television & Film. Studying to become a Producer, Director, or possibly a backup of a Camera Man/DP. Need to write this ASAP. Thanks EDIT: I believe that I also need to include a reel of some previous work I have done, not too sure. But, it would help to include one anyways... I am in my final year of High School, and I do not have any reels of my work. If I do require a reel, what should I do? But, If I could stay back for a semester an apply in Winter, then I MIGHT be able to put together a reel of my work I did in High School. Would this be OK?
  10. so, I guess I'll be going to film school. Narrowed down my choices to; - Toronto film & media college $18,000/year tuition - New York Film Academy in California $34,000/year tuition any recommendations, comments, anything?
  11. Not too sure where to ask this, thought this would be a good enough place. I want to head off into film school this year or maybe wait until next year as its most likely too late, unless if spots are still available. I want to learn about film; becoming a movie producer, director (basically in general) What would be my best approach; College or University for films studies? And what is recommended; degree, or diploma, or something else? What education would one of those Hollywood producers/directors have?
  12. hu, thats mad expensive. for someone like me, who is trying to make low budget films. Like I said, I never bothered to learn of look at film cameras. I never knew that this would be so expensive. Better know now then later. So, I will definitely stay with the camera with non-film. I finally found the rules section of the festival, and it said it accepts DVCAMS. So, I am good. Even though I only saw 2 out of 50ish entries that did not use 35mm film. So, what would be the important features on the DV Camera that I would need to look for? Which would you recommend, why? JVC GY-HD200UB Pro-HD Camcorder JVC GY-HD110U Pro-HD Camcorder XL2
  13. I was actually considering one of these cameras as it was also recommended by someone else: http://www.vistek.ca/store/ProVideoCamcord...nder-mic-h.aspx http://www.vistek.ca/store/ProVideoCamcord...-camcorder.aspx *don't mind the price. This store is expensive, they normally sell under/around $4000. So, I guess I'll stick with the non-film camera. Its simpler and cheaper in the end. I did a search and found this site. Tell me if this is true, or if I am just going crazy.. http://dvfilm.com/specials.htm $450/MIN to transfer from a HDCAM to 35mm film! Is this true!?!?! :o
  14. Well, I have been making movies/short movie clips/commercials, etc for about 2 years or so. maybe a bit more, on and off. I've been doing it, but I never considered to do it as something as a profession. Or simply making a movie and being evaluated by others. I never considered it and I just never bothered to learn or understand all the stuff. I had the basic equipment, and it was and still is a pain to use. As I cannot do as many things as a normal camera would do. I had those cheap hand held cameras... I'm considering to take it a bit more serious now. I'm not also looking for some cheap stuff so, that I can use it this many times, then after a while its not good enough as it doesn't have this, or that and may require upgrades, etc. I prefer something that I can use, rather then have something decent and constantly upgrade or make better. I've don't that many times before, and I just decide to now stick to the best I can afford.
  15. However, this is not all im going to be doing. As being a magician, I tent to use a camera a lot. I shoot a lot of close-up shots of what I am doing so that the audience can see on a projector and recording some demos for other people as promo videos. Using the camera in my shows can use the standard hand held that you can purchase for around $300. but for making promos, well, it doesn't matter. It just seems easier to do it on a memory card then film. But, I dont really know the quality difference, and WHY to bother doing it on film rather than a memory card.
  16. ok, well, my budget, im not too sure of.. But, I am looking to stick to around $4000 for the camera. I am not looking to go on the complete best out there. just a camera that is good enough for recording movie like films in HD quality. My first movie was/is supposed to be on WWII (d-day). My objective is to create short films and give them to the short films festivals anywhere I can. I want to first start of with the smaller festivals and work my way up. But, I also don't know what the festivals use. Do they require film or digital. I looked over the film festival near a city near me (Toronto, Ont.) and I could not find any information on the requirements of the films or anything. The short films festival is going to be a big part of my movie making. Making around 2-3 short films a year.
  17. I am looking around to buy a cheap camera to make some movies. I know film camera's are not cheap, but worth a shot. I just want to know what would be the best way to go? Is it best to get a film camera such as those in theaters. Or a camera with a memory chip? I can see that having film would be a problem as I dont know how they edit and get the movie onto a computer. While the memory chip all you need to do is plug it in. What do you think?
  18. Just an additional quick question.. is it possible to record on a memory chip and then later using some program or some device to get that movie onto film? or you need to record on film first?
  19. thanks. I looked over the 'GY-HD110U' before, it seems pretty good but pricy. I browsed around some other stores that sell the same camera and it was a lot cheaper. The shop near me has to be the most expensive, dang! and thanks for the info. Any more camera recommendations, tips, or anything, please let me know.
  20. Hey guys, first, I am 18-years old, and I am looking for some equipment to make some movies. Right now, I am looking into making some short films (15-25min. long). I have always wanted to make my own movies. I am making this movie as soon as I get all my equipemnt and stuff. I need to have this film ready by next Spet. '10. It might seem like its a long time away, but by the time I get my stuff, I wont have much time. I have lists of equipment I would be needing but, I dont know what brand, and what type to use. One of those items (the most important) is the camera. I am out on the lookout for a camera that will fit my needs. My first movie I am making is on WWII. This a big deal with costumes and tons of actors. The first important feature into making my movie is the type of camera. 1. I need a shoulder cam. 2. I was watchin 'The making of Saving Private Ryan' Pt.5 where the camera man talks about the lens. He mentioned he had the filter removed to stop the light from bouncing around in the camera to creat the blurred out, dirty, grey sky type of look (without it being out of focus) even during blue sky. However, I still need to make normal movies that do not require this effect. 3. The other most important thing along wit the feature mentioned above is to have it in HD! 4. Basically, as I am young, I dont have a lot of money to spend on this. My budget I would say would be around $3-4K tops. (CAD) I also have some questions recarding filming and cameras: 1. I noticed that there're a few different types of cameras. Which do you suppose would be best/easiest; have it recorded on a memory card, cassette, or standard movie film? Problem with movie film for me is how to play it, edit it, etc. 2. The camera guy in Saving Private Ryan mentions about using 45deg. and 90deg. shutters. Whats that? 3. What is a good editing program? (PC) & (Mac - dont have) So, I have quite a big list of requirements for my camera. Can someone recommend anything for me with my need and at my price range? Please tell me the name of the camera, where to purchase it(website) and why it is good, as to why it suits me? Thanks so much!!!
