  1. The response to the Local Hero Digital Cinema Blog has been bigger than expected. We've re-located the site, re-tooled it to be more organized, and fired it back up. We will be posting a new article on the RED every Friday. Thanks for the support so far! http://blog.localheropost.com/ P.S. : Please comment, we want it to be a discussion, even if your comment is that you disagree!
  2. Hi All, I've been posting a series of blog entries on shooting and grading RED. Might be of interest if you want to know more about DI as it pertains to films shot digitally on RED. localheropost.squarespace.com
  3. Hi all, Part 1 of my series on shooting and grading RED was more sucsessful than expected, lots of positive feedback. Keep the questions coming. 5. I co-own a small DI house and I can say with pride that I agree with a lot of what John Bailey is saying. I got interested in DI because I saw it as a way to make the life of a cinematographer a little easier. With well-shot negative, we could more quickly and less painfully acheive a look. But I'm shocked at what I see at the multiplex often. Burned images, insanely manipulated images. Much of what's out there seems to be OVER DI-ed like one giant photoshop session. Its that old saying, just because you can doesn't mean you should. I think DI has to be used very carefully and with a soft touch. Its there to make fixing things easier or there to fully realize a look that was intended from the beginning, but not there to replace the cinematographer. At my shop, we ususally say, you can make BAD look OK and OK usually look GOOD, but you can never go from BAD to GOOD.
  6. LOCAL HERO POST has moved into a 10,000sqft space in Santa Monica. We are currently finishing our 2K DI theatre. We are a Scratch based facility and specifically designed to handle high-end RED DI. We will have an opening party within 30 days. Also, there will be regular RED NIGHTS where anyone can bring their R3D's, look at them in our Scratch bays and discuss the footage with our colorists. Local Hero ( as the name suggests ) is a dedicated ally to the indie world, we work hard to help indie filmmakers achieve the best finish for their films. We are filmmakers, film lovers, and redusers to the core. 7. You know, I'm getting that question a lot. There seems to be some confusion out there about what a blog is. its not a forum ( like this site is ), you don't need to login to my blog. You can post a comment or ask a question under each of the postings. Also, you can reach me directly at leandro@localheropost.com if you like.
  8. but it's almost like you have to fight with the camera to get them. AGREED. Though i hep people get better images out of the red, I feel like I've never had to be so damn careful with is or I've never been such a slave to what "the camera wants" ( 5600k light, small dynamic range ). Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? Regardless, if people are shooting it, I feel its my responsability to try to help avoid pitfalls. Leandro
  9. Hi fellow red users. I've started a blog about everything RED and Digital Cinema in general. As i state on my blog, all day ever day as a DI producer i answer questions about what DI is and why to go Red ( which i support wholeheartedly ). I'm giving "squarespace" a try, lets see how well it holds up. Come ask a question or tell me anything you feel like over at localheropost.squarespace.com
