  1. Good tips, Freya. I'll take a look at those programs! As to giallo, it's a style of thriller indigenous to Italy in the 1970s. Not just Argento's work, but a ton of cheesy thrillers like "Lizard In A Woman's Skin", "Seven Bloodstained Orchids", "Don't Torture A Duckling", "Your Vice Is a Locked Room (and Only I Have The Key)" and so on. Search Netflix or your fave stream service for more titles.
  2. Well done on taking on such an ambitious concept! Using HD, especially the cheap HD the iPhone camera provides, to create the incredibly rich visual style of those movies (yeah, I'm a fan too) is going to be tough if not impossible. As a post guy, I would recommend you study as much colorist technique as possible, and then just practice like a beast. Good luck working with the two apps you listed, but I can assure you that you need a professional setup like Adobe CS or Avid to do what you're talking about. Both are impossible to buy, but you can rent them as long as you need them ($50 or $40 monthly, respectively). I'll leave it to those with more expertise on the matter of selecting a film quality HD camera to expound on that.
  3. I've gone from studying film in the days of Steenbeck plates to studying tapeless HD workflow and Final Cut Server best practices. My YouTube page currently has FCP and After Effects clips, plus a wayward Flash clip. I have more motion graphics work here and here. It's not a huge body of work so that's why I am only shooting for assistant or junior work, unless a short/commercial director wants to give a guy a chance like those people did who helped me build the reel I have. Ask me about the indie musical I edited! Thank you for visiting, and constructive comments are appreciated!
  4. So my background includes Flash animation (short movies as well as interactive clips), video editing on Beta and digital 8, and audio editing. My current objective: break into modern editing (FCP or Avid) with getting into After Effects and similar specialties down the road. Obstacle: I have no reel yet. But with a background like this, is a jump to editing very short clips doable? I'm talking commercials, homemade shorts, I don't care, but I need to do something to get that reel. Or should I just rent a camera and film something? Your professional insights and advice are appreciated!
  5. Hello all, my first post so I'll be brief - I edited a no-budget feature many years ago (on 8mm video - eek!) and enjoyed the experience tremendously, but I lost touch with the director who never provided a copy. I've also done scoring and random production work for indie features in the area. I've concentrated on writing since then, but I'm interested in returning to post work. If you are filming in the NYC tristate and need an assistant or specialist (sound / FX editing, etc) I'm available! Any constructive feedback is welcome. I appreciate your time reading this.
