  1. Hello I am a student of cinematography from India and am going to shoot a short film soon on ARRI 16 SRII or ARRIFLEX 16 BL. Now, its a night setup with ample amount of light coming from window. I am planning to use tungsten (fresnel and open) 600W-1KV bulbs for interior lighting. For lights to be used in EXT that could be light coming from a street lamp or a tube light outside a window, I want to know what kind of lights I should use to differentiate between color and tones of INT & EXT. Either I should go with HMI's (2.5KV-5KV) or I should go with cellophane coloured gels on tungsten only. I don't have the facility of a color temperature meter so cant exactly set the color tempreture or use gels accordingly. Help will be appreciated. Shashank Walia AJK MCRC, JMI, India.
  2. Hello, my struggle with Bolex H16 and Arri BL is still on. Now there are basically two issues that we are facing both with respect to focus system of the camera. Both the cameras we are using are 30 years old and so they have undergone a lot of wear and tear. In case of Bolex H16, the issue is after setting up the diopter, the tape measure and the deep focus distance are never the same. We then decide to go with the deep focus technique as it is more reliable as the zoom lens we are using is very old and is not very well calibrated too. With deep focus the issue is when we deep focus a subject and then when we zoom out we loose some focus after a particular focal length. Another thing that is an issue is that when we Rack Focus or Shift Focus then while we move the focus ring, at times the zoom ring and aperture ring also moves. With Arri BL the issue is when we do a rack focus the focus ring moves to fast or is not very smooth. Is that because if lot of wear and tear of the lens. Whats the possible solution for making it work smoother. Help will be deeply appreciated.
  3. Elliot, you are absolutely correct I am talking about timecode/Keycode burn only. Thanks for your help.
  4. I am a student of AJKMCRC, Jamia Millia Islamiya, India. I have recently shot an advertisement on 16mm film format from a Bolex H16 Reflex camera and Arri 16 BL. Now we as students just get a single light tele-cine tranfer after processing on a Mini DV. We don't cut an EDL or a cut list for further grading and DI because its too expensive too handle. Now single light telecine results are actually of fine quality, but the issue with it is that the footage always comes up with a counter stamp required for cut list which we actually don't need. So i wanted to ask if it is possible that we get a single light telecine transfer footage without counter stamp printed so that we can edit and send it to festivals across. Also I don't wish to shoot by keeping a safe area in mind because then you are wasting your resolution and image size. Your support would be of great help to me.
