Curious if anyone knows the specs, age, or other info on this pristine Miller-ish head and leg combo I stumbled on for dirt cheap... found nothing online and a couple tripod specialists sort of said " good luck with that " if one ever wants parts or service... Universal Fluid Heads, Sydney Australia... peculiar leveling bowl / flat combo I have never seen... not a claw ball, but a split bowl that itself compresses on the hollow ball, topped with a plate to register the head, which is locked in by a recessed knob screw marked Birns & Sawyer Int'l.
And, as I was using it without incident last week with an HDv package it occurred to me, other than weight and water damage / abuse potential, why exactly did wooden legs go out of use in the past few decades ?
