  6. That's great that it is more of a thinking on your feet exercise. Whilst I love to plan and really hone a vision, I think for a workshop its best a bit rough and ready. Looking forward to meeting you both and the others too. Ian
  7. Hi Guys, Congratulation to you both. I will be attending the workshop this year too, looking forward to next week. Steven I know you attended last year so you might know, do we only get to see the scripts once we are at the workshop? The only info I have been sent so far is a basic schedule of the 3 days. Ian.

  11. I would like to buy a Canon 7d Contineo powered cage made by View Factor. Does anyone have one that they would like to sell to me?
  12. I wish you best of luck Steven, I hope you get in. Thanks, that is kind of you to say that about my work. I am going to try set up a meeting at the NFTS to have a discussion with the head of cinematography to discuss my application for next year, they don't seem to want to give feedback, I can understand with the numbers involved. I am going to continue working freelance and hopefully move down to London later this year or early next year. I would be glad meet you and to work with you at some point. Let me know how the rest of the process goes for you. Best, Ian
  13. Hi, Unfortunately I was not offered an interview. I don't know the reasons why I wasn't offered an interview, and they say that they won't give me any feedback. How did your interview go, have you heard about the selection workshop yet? Did you have any contacts at the NFTS or any prior connection before the application process? Cheers, Ian
  14. Hi, I am an experienced DoP based in the UK. I very experienced in lighting and shooting for CG. I have attached my CV and a link to my showreel: http://vimeo.com/11744998 Kindest Regards, Ian Forbes
  15. Thanks for letting me know Steven, I hope that they are still in the process of sending out the invitations to interview. Good luck with yours.
  16. What day did you find out about your interview? Was it an email, phone call or a letter? I hate this waiting.
  17. That's fantastic that you have been selected for interview. I have not received any notification of an interview so I am still waiting with my fingers crossed!
  18. Just watched you showreel on vimeo, thought it was fantastic.
  19. Thank you, yes I have made my application for 2012. Just waiting to hear back and see if I get an interview. Do you have an online showreel?
  20. I am a 23 year old cinematographer based in scotland. I would appreciate any feedback on my showreel. I ambition is to study cinematography at the NFTS. http://vimeo.com/11744998 Thanks for watching, feedback is greatly appreciated!
  21. This is my new reel, I am a 23 year old cinematographer based in Scotland, any feedback on my reel would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to study at the NFTS to develop my visual storytelling. http://vimeo.com/11744998 Thanks for your time! Ian Forbes
  22. Hi, I would like to offer you half your asking price for this kit. What do you think. Best, Ian
  23. Dear all, I am shooting a film where there is a kitchen interior (set build). I would like to create (moving) car headlights effect. There is one actress in the scene, we start on a shot tight in on her face and track out gradually revealing the room and objects within it. My plan so far is to have a small window in the set 2' x2'. I will use a small tungsten source (handheld) and moving it in a circular motion, pointing towards the window. I might have a net curtain in the window to give me the quality of light I am looking for. Does anyone have any techniques or advice for me. Best, Ian. 24. I have a problem. I can't get any HMIs within the budget for the shoot. If I were to use a tungsten white balance and gelled the windows with .6 ND + full CTO would I be able to use this set up for shots where the window is in shot we can see out of the window. I am worrying that the windows will appear orange. Thanks
  25. Thank you for the advice. I agree that I need more contrast in my interior day scenes, I feel that this will give me the more dynamic feel that I seek. I am really inspired by Robbie Ryan's cinematography in 'Fish Tank'. Thanks for the advice about the HMIs, I am going to get two 1.2 HMI fresnels instead of the tungsten 2k with CTB. am right in thinking that running a 1.2 k HMI with draw around 6 amps when on a 220v circuit? How many more amps will an HMI of this size draw upon striking, I do not know whether the ballasts are electric or magnetic, I am assuming electric though. Can you give me some advice in operating HMIs since I don't have a great deal of experience with them? I don't want the shoot to be held up. Thanks, Ian
