  1. Hi there, Does anyone have the issue of American Cinematographer in which the cinematographer Manuel Claro speaks about Von Trier's Melancholia? I'd like to read it and I cannot find it on internet. Can anyone help me out here? Many thanks.
  2. Hi everyone, I'm shooting a short film next week and need some technical advice of how can I finalize my ideas. Look at the picture below... it's a hallway and the scene is between a father and a son who are coming home by the night. For this scene I have a practical lamp, in the left side of the shot. That will be the key light for the son... the father will be on the ambient light. And there is my problem... I need to create a kind of light that is suspended and fleeting, with less shadows possible. I remember Remdrandt when I see this image in my head... A light that is exterior to the scene and have a gentle degrade between light and shadow. Kind of light with particles... I'm a bit confused and I don't know if you guys can help me. Waiting some answers. Thank you!
  3. Hi there everyone! It's possible for me to use a Neutral Density gel (rosco) in front of the lens? In our production, we have 3 glass ND's, from Schneider... but we need more to cut light in a scene with hard sunlight (we are working with Sony Nex-fs100, which have a native 800 ISO - it is hard to control in some situations). Can I loose quality in the final image? Thank you all! Best regards
  4. Well, because I would like to read it and I can't find it on the internet. Thanks David!
  5. Hi guys, Is there anyone who have the article "On Kramer vs. Kramer" by Almendros, American Cinematographer, May 1980? Thanks!
  6. Hi there everybody, I've read that the light quality of a fixture depends, almost, of the bulb used and it's color rendition index. Supposing that you are using a bulb that is not already diffused, like kinos, the material used in front of it, to diffuse, could affect the quality of light, right? My big question is: what fixture could simulate the sharpness of a fresnel with a diffusion filter? A kino-flo or one of the best light bulb in the market with a diffusion filter? Sorry for my English, Waiting some answers from you, Thanks!!
  7. Hello Wooda, First of all, thank you for your answer. The materials where I want to apply the spray are a surface made of glass an other made of brilliant black marble and they have a frontal wide window with an explosion of natural light. I'll try your suggestion firstly and made some comparisons. Thank you again!
  8. Hi everyone, I'm about to start a shooting in next month, but I'm still working on the last things. The place where we're going to film have some surfaces that reflect a lot (some between 30 and 70% and others between 30 and 50%) so I thinking in use a dulling spray instead of a matte "coat". Can you give me some opinions and how it works? It is the best choice, taking into account the money we have to do the film? Many thanks!
  9. Hello again, Just one more doubt related to the Mired values. Imagine that I have a 4200K source that I want to transform into a 2800K. I've made the calculation and the Mired value is 119. So, for this, I could use a 1/2 CTO and a 1/4 CTO together, to approach the 119 value. But there's a shift of 4 degrees (the two CTO produce a 123 Mired). This could cause some problems? Thanks for the attention! Luís
  10. Hello David, Many thanks for your answer. Quite clear! I don't know if you could help in another thing... Our movie is mainly interiors and I'm searching for some examples, in another movies, to start thinking how I'm gonna conceptualise my cinematography project. Do you have some advice for me? Thanks for your help!
  11. Hello, I follow this forum since 2008, when I went to a film school. I'm now graduated and I have a little project started with two friends of mine. We're working on a film and I am charge of photography department, means, practically everything inside it. We are a little team, we have to raise our effort. I have two doubts: 1 - What is the big difference between CINEGEL filters and E-COLOUR filters from Rosco? It's only related to the question of the standards? E-colour for Europe? 2 - Why does the same filter (take the example of one HALF-BLUE) produce a variable result in color temperature (increase of 900 degrees for a 3200K and only 600 degrees for a 2600K)? Thanks for your answers, I apologize for my rough English. Luís
