The cinematographer Robert Richardson does this thing with extremely strong lighting from the rear and above, causing a strong halo-like glow to come off their heads and shoulders. Check out JFK (especially the Kevin Costner and Tommy Lee Jones characters) and Natural Born Killers (especially the scenes where the two killer characters are in jail). How do I reproduce this look? I'm a student and I think I want to incorporate a shot or two like this in my student film. Additionally, I want to try this in my 3d program as well. Any hints?
