Speaking of Michael Bay Car Chases, has anyone spotted that he used the same footage on The Island and Transformers: Dark Of The Moon? Just CGI a busted transformer and bobs your uncle.

Well, Marvel Studios has just announced that a directors cut with some 30 minutes of additional footage is going to be released theatrically towards the end of the year.

The film was quite dark (not literally) The humor just lightened it somewhat.

So the movie was made with Lindberg's supervision?

Can't say I made the original post in this thread with any anticipation anything would actually change, no. It's political, which these days seems to refer to extremely rich people finding ways to do almost nothing while making grandiose claims about it.
As I've said a lot, now, until there's some sort of protection for indigenous distribution, nothing will change. Again; it's politics, and making the changes that are required to make a real, noticeable difference is not complicated and nor is the required action really disputed. It just requires political courage, and at the moment we seem to select our leaders for anything but. I mean, we have a head of government finance who simply repeats the same quote using very slightly different words every time someone asks him any question, because that's all he's been told to say. It should make him embarrassed. Actually it makes him very rich.
As such, I've long since given up on any of these people ever making any difference to anything other than their own bank accounts.
Unfortunately you have hit the nail on the head.

As long as it doesn't get excessive, I believe hand held camera shots can bring a lot to an action story.

I believe this will be a defining moment for the Bond franchise.

I'm in the process of upgrade my favorite DVD's with Blu-rays. I have a collection of over 800 DVD's of which probably 2/3rds I want to upgrade. Gonna be a long and very expensive process.

I watched it over the weekend. Whilst it was visually phenomenal, I just felt there was something missing, that spark.

Looking forward to seeing just what the next Marvel Movie will be.

James Stewart was the All American Hero, one of a few who actually lived up to their hype, unlike certain other "heroes" I could mention cough cough John Wayne cough cough.

What percentage of UK films is Government financed.

I'm curious as to how much of the forest scenes were artificial light vs. just the sun and bounces. Anyone opinions?
There were literally four or six people in the entire theater I was at on a Friday night...that place is gonna be closing soon...sad.
Enjoy it while it lasts.

I think it's definitely wiser to spend the money on a decent projector and set up than it is to buy one of those so called smart tvs and still pay for cinema tickets.

This film is gonna be HUGE, in more ways than one.

According to the ARRI 4k+ study (page 29) the biggest distance to fully resolve 4k with normal eyesight is 20m on a 25m wide screen, which results in a view angle of 60° which many people already find unpleasant. So given a 2m wide screen at home (I think everything beyond that remains unrealistic for practical - not technological - purposes) it's a viewing distance of just 1.6m!
On the other hand, resolution is more than just 2k vs. 4k, it's the contrast and fine rendering of details - I saw MI4 on a 4k DLP Barco and it definitely was better than all 2k or 35mm screenings I've attended. But that doesn't mean that any acquisition tool can achieve that level of quality, even when the pixel count on the sensor justifies the brand "4k". To be honest, I hardly doubt that it's possible with 24mm wide sensors, yet (without compromising other aspects of IQ). I have yet to see any digital camera that is sharper on 1080p/2k-output than the Alexa besides only using 1.5x oversampling... Not even speaking about the overall look (which is partially due to the large photosites with a 8.25µm pitch).
I suspected as much.

After my IMAX 3D experience with The Avengers. I am seriously thinking of NOT seeing this in 3D, even if he does swear by it.

I took this picture of a boxing match on tv Friday night. Why would this be broadcast like this?
HD broadcasts are shown in 16:9 format. When shown on a 4:3 TV you will get black bars top and bottom.

Watched the Avengers over the weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed it, especially The Hulk.
Avoid the 3D if you can, it was pretty bad. Lots of crosstalk and fast moving scenes induced nausea and eyestrain. Certain scenes had that soap opera feel that you get when watching a TV demo in a shop.
Audio was outstanding though.

I have heard that any improvements over 2K are not visible to the human eye at close range (ie at home)

Out of curiosity are there any plans to introduce 4K monitors, other than front projectors?

Cool - keep us updated for sure! I see Cinefex is covering it next issue also, although of course the thrust of their interest is more with the effects than photography.
I hope there was some room for some practical stuff - model work, animatronics etc...
Me too. I don't want all CGI either.

Although I never saw this theatrically, the Blu-ray really captured the frigid surroundings in Sweden. Whenever the action took place outdoors I actually wanted to grab a jumper.

Great advice there.

There will always be a need for physical media from people who appreciate movies and how they are supposed to look and sound.
