Since the age of 12 I have carried a camera wherever I go. And since the age of 11 I have been fascinated by film and living virtually through it. In the last year I wrote about one of my favourite subjects - Surrealism in film - and this is a huge area of interest for me.
  1. I recently watched 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and was wondering how they achieved that yellowish glow that is in a lot of the film in the interior sequences of the film? Was it on set, filming, post production - or all three? Thanks, Phoebe
  2. Two things - 1) Yes I have had some practical experience whilst on my degree, but not much. 2) Although interesting, I think the topic of 'moving to the states' should be moved to a more specific thread rather than on here.
  3. Hello, Recently I joined up to the forums to discuss the likelihood of making a career out of cinematography. One of the responses was quite strong - that there is not much work at all out there for a budding cinematographer. Originally I started that topic as a way of finding out about courses to study cinematography, but now I have some serious reservations and would like to hear from the professional London based people :) So - is there any work and can cinematography be used as a transferable skill? And is there anything else that people would recommend I do if that is where my interests are?
  4. Hello, Thats some bad news! I was looking into doing the course as well. Can I ask what was so bad about it other than the teaching? Even if it was bad would you say it has helped you pursue it as a career? Thanks
  5. Thanks for replying so quickly! I would just like to add on to my previous question - I have had a very small amount of practical experience, and there is an opening on a course that I am wondering about taking which would help me gain the 'knowledge' - would it still be more advisable to start by working practically? Thanks again.
  6. Hello there, I apologise whole heartedly if this question is asked elsewhere but I figured it was better to ask directly. In essence, I have just finished a degree in Film Studies, and for the last four years I have had my heart set on a career in cinematography. I know like most jobs in the film industry it is not easy to achieve, but what I would like to know is what is the best way forward. For instance, I know in London only two universities run Cinematography as an MA, but would this qualification mean anything after I have graduated? i.e. is it better to have experience in the field over having a academic qualification and does this qualification actually mean anything to you guys? Also, what other options do I have in terms of training? Anyway, many thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to get some feedback soon.
