  1. Well I got a hold of one tonight and very impressive. I compared it to my Kino Diva 55k, Quasar Science Par lights and defiantly 93 CRI and up. It claims 95 CRI and I wouldn't be surprised if that were true. I don't have a SpectroMaster so I am comparing other light sources that I know the true CRI from online testing. My camera in light room with a datacolor test chart 5500k with -1/+1 green and magenta and skin tones are looking good. I need some bowens mount accessories such as Fresnel, a soft box and take it out in the field. I don't plan on using this professionally but I had to build it since its been bugging me how expensive LED are when this projects only cost me few hundred with off the shelf parts and I am not even engineer, (though I was raised by one so that helps).
  2. Has anyone tried this on led from CREE? http://www.cree.com/~/media/Files/Cree/LED-Components-and-Modules/XLamp/Data-and-Binning/ds-CXA2.pdf
  3. HI, I have been doing a lot research into LED market and I am puzzled by how everyone and even the major lighting companies claim their light output compared to tungsten is so far off. For instance a common one I see is 100w(100w-135w) is a 1000w tungsten equivalent. From Arri all the way to the cheaper Aputure Lightstorms give a similar claim, but when you look at their photometrics and compare them they're more like a 300w tungsten equivalent. I use Arri Photometric calculator to compare their classic 650w tungsten Fresnel to their own LED Fresnel series and everyone else's LEDs and it comes up consistently that around 100w LED is more like a 300w tungsten. Is there something I am missing or is this just false advertising across the whole lighting industry to push LED? I also took into account beam angle when comparing the photometrics.
  4. Hi, I am in the middle of my own DIY project making a high-powered LED light. I am using the Luminus XNOVA-Studio Series 150w LED COB. I chose this one because it could handle high heat, is meant for use in video and photography lighting, outputs a little less than a 650w tungsten bulb and the company rates it at 5600K 95CRI. But now that I have built it I am very disappointed with the actual CRI. It's way too green and feels very lacking in the color rendition. I was hoping since Luminus is an American company in San Francisco and this line of LEDs are meant for Fresnel and studio lights their CRI claims would be more honest. Does anyone know a good supplier of 150w LED COB with an high CRI, maybe even ones that major brands are using?
  5. There is no way these led could put out 1000w or 500w equivalent. There is a reason why all current LED Fresnel are so much heavy and larger compared to tungsten Fresnel. Start doing the photo-metrics calculations and see all companies exaggerate there output equivalent to tungsten or HMI. Its a heat and noise issue with COB leds. After working on my DIY led conversion project, I had to research on trying to keep the heat down and noise level. You need a much larger fan to move enough air and keep the noise down. These fans look tiny. Comes down to it Led COB (chip on board) are just not heat efficient enough yet to truly replace a tungsten bulb. Don't get me young I believe in the LED technology and there is hope, there has been a bunch of break though research done over the last year alone that could double the light out put and cut the heat in half. So until then I've put on hold to investing in Led as a tungsten or HMI replacement.
  6. Thank you for watching my reel and giving me some critique. I agree with you, I those shots are the weakest and I am constantly updating and getting rid of the amateur stuff as I get more professional work. I just Graduated few, months ago and trying to get my career started, so professional opinions and advice are much appreciated.
  7. Thank You. I just graduated from CSU Northridge in Los Angeles.
  8. My Demo Reel I am looking for some feed back since I never posted my reels on forums before and want to know what other cinematographers think about it. I am looking for more experienced older cinemtogaphers' feed back mostly, I just finished school and just started being hired as a music video DP in LA.
  9. I want to get insurance to cover my camera gear and lens about $5000-$7000 worth and be able to have it covered if when my camera gear is lent to a friend or rented out. What company should I go with, type of insurance, and how much does it cost normally cost for small amounts.
  10. I am film student at CSU Northridge and I am new to 16mm, I am trying to find the cheapest place to get my 16mm film project transfered to HD to edit with. whats the best place for students?
