  1. Can someone explain to me how to go about shooting the title card? Do I need a titling stand? What would be a good black card, I have read to get a high density black card? Is that what I would want? How about lighting the card? Am I right in saying the black card with white title letters would go on the b roll? And when the lab would run the b roll. That the black wouldn't expose the film?
  2. I am using, for this print color reversal. How would one go about doing this with color reversal?
  3. Hello, I am working on a 16mm print. I want to try and do my own titles. I was planning on a +b 'ing. And this will be my first a + b I've done. I would like to try and do my own titles rather than have my lab do them. My first scene where I want my titles to go, is an outdoor scene in slo-motion of a kid pouring water out of a container. I would like superimposed on the first scene after a few seconds, in red letters the name of my film. I would like 'sound film #2' which is the title of my film. And then a few seconds later, or right after the title of my film. In small font in white 'a film by, james collins.' Like I said I want to try and do my own titles. I thought of having the name of the film dissolve in and out and the 'a film by, james collins.' Dissolve in and out too. But I thought for my first title something simple like just display the title info normal. And the titles could be white if red is too hard. A couple of things to note: I am doing everything in 16mm. From original footage to final print. I have a couple of closets I can turn into a dark room if needed. I also could get supplies like a dark room light, if needed. I have a synchronizer and could do an a b and c roll if I have to. I am looking for any info(a step by step guide or tutorial would be great) on how I would go about doing this? I do have some film books, but don't know exactly how to do this. Anyway any help or info would be great.
  4. Hello, I am interested in setting up a small home theatre. I am going to have a carpenter, with some experience in theatres building it. The room will be in a basement, I think I will have a couch and some chairs on each side. Max about 6 or 7 people. I wanted to know if anyone had any tips or info. So I can talk to my carpenter? Like is there a special kind of glass I should order to project through? I was told I want a double pane slightly slanted. But I wondered is there a special sort of glass? One of my main reasons for building the projection booth is to isolate the sound of the projector from the film. Should the booth be sound proof? I was thinking of my booth almost the size of a closet maybe a little bigger with room for two projectors. I also thought it would be nice to have a power outlet, ventilation system and good lighting. One thing I am concerned about is the distance from the booth and projector to the screen. When I normally project, onto a wall I like to get pretty close, I think I like the image to be small. But I realize with the booth when I make it. At least the projector will be more stationary. I have a screen but don't have a tripod for it. I was thinking temporarily to hang the screen from the ceiling. Or buy one of eBay with a tri-pod and then place it were I want. Also can I just run a chord out of my booth for sound? How can I run a cable for sound and keep the booth relatively sound proof. It is going to be a small home theatre for showing 16mm and super 8 films. I thought if I wanted to get fancy, I could have an electric push button screen and electrically dimmable lights, so at a push of the button I could lower the screen and slowly dim the lights. But I am after advice and any info or pitfalls that I can discuss with my carpenter. P.s. I wouldn't mind buying a popcorn maker, do they sell theatre style popcorn makers? And maybe I could get a cooler for drinks. P.s. do you lose anything by projecting through a glass like brightness resolution etc?
  5. Thanks for the reply. One thing I should mention my tape recorder is a nagra 4.2 I am using a mag tape recorder. And even if I did have two audio tracks. I still have a problem of recording the record player. Can I go from RCA left and right to mono banana plugs? I talked to a guy who said I could buy a set of banana plugs from radio shack, and cut a pair of RCA cables at one end and then it would be easy to put the wires to the banana plugs? But I have never done anything like this. My record player has RCA left and right out. If I cut just one of the RCA cables and solder to the correct banana plug could that work? Question if you have two audio tracks, do you a + b like you would picture? Like the sound of the song will be at the end of the film? Would I just use black leader up to where the record comes in? I am in the process of editing, I have a roll of picture and a roll of sync sound taken from my nagra and resolved on a mag tape recorder. I still have the field recording of the audio for the last scene.
  6. Hello, What I am trying to do is mix a sync recording, with a recording of a record. I have sync sound of a dog barking and I wanted to add a song from a record player. I am working on a print and it will be the last scene. The equipment I have. A nagar tape recorder. A sync tape recording with picture to go with it. A record player with RCA output. A boss Roland br-800 digital recorder mixer. And a mag film recorder. I am looking into cables and adaptors this is where I could use some help. I thought there are probably several ways I could accomplish this. Like I could hook up my nagar to my mixer and my record player to my mixer and then record a mix of the too recordings and then output that to my mag tape recorder? But one question I have is will I lose the crystal sync if I run my tape recorder into my mixer? I thought for this particular scene absolute sync isn't critical. But would be nice and definitely in the future would be nice. I think when I normally resolve, I send the sync signal to my mag film recorder via a plug. But my digital recorder doesent have this plug? If sync isn't necessary can I just leave this plug unplugged when sending audio to my mag tape recorder? And how would I go RCA left and right into my mag tape recorder? I think I normally go sound output, fully floating on my nagra banana plugs to the mag tape recorder? I also thought of plugging my mixer into my nagra, and then I could mix the record and record it onto my nagra and resolve as I normally would. But my original sync recording is on my nagra. And I only have one nagra. I do have a tanberg reel-to-reel, but again if I put the sync recording on my reel-to-reel I think I would lose sync. But again let's say sync isn't necessary. How would I go RCA left and right into line in on my nagra, that is where I think I need adaptors or cables. But I don't know if they make RCA to 6-pin Tuchel, for example? According to a book I have on the nagra the acc socket can be used for a line input for a mixer. Their is also banana line input, but I don't know if I can connect RCA left and right to banana plugs, or if I would even want to? I also thought of basically using one of the xlr mic inputs to either feed my mixer or record player into. Like let's say if I planned a scene of people talking and had I mike in one xlr and my record player in another start the scene and then while the people are talking start the record and use the nagra to mix. But that is just an idea, can't really help me now but maybe in the future. I also thought of a and b ing the audio and let the lab mix it. I think I would have to have black leader, and then I would have a second sound track. Then I would just need to figure out how to hook up my record player to my nagra. And then resolve that as usual. One of my big questions is regarding my RCA left and right sound outputs, both my record player and digital recorder/mixer have RCA left and right sound output? Is it possible to hook those outputs into my nagra or mag tape recorder? Do I need to worry about mono( I think I can set my recorder for mono record, and the record I have is monophonic)? Any help or info would be appreciated. Like I said I am almost ready to send my film with audio to a lab to have a print made, but I want to mix a record with a sync recording on the last scene. I have never done this and just wondered if anyone knew the best way to do this?
  7. Hello, To Dom or anyone else who can help. I have a bolex 16 pro, motion picture camera. I actually shot a roll of film, with the camera. But I ordered a 400 ft. Roll of film and need help loading it into the camera? The last time I tried the film kept jamming. I still have the roll of film in the bolex 16 pro magazine. Any tips or info on how to successfully load it is what I am after. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hello, I have a bolex 16 pro. 16 mm camera. I have loaded film into the magazine, but when I try to load the film the film keeps jamming. One question I have is the spot on the magazine where you cut the film, does the film load with this cutter putting pressure on the film? I can't seem to get the film to load, it keeps getting jammed. Any help would be appreciated.
  9. Dom, What does the footage counter look like? Is it inside the magazine? I think I can get the magazine off the camera body, then I am going to turn the little triangular shaped thing, so I can turn the cover of the magazine off. Then I will move the footage counter out of the way, I have a booklet in German with pictures. It shows the inside of the magazine, but then I can just pull the film right out? Never unloaded a magazine on any camera before, just don't want to damage something.
  10. Hello, Wondered if anyone knew how, or had a step by step description on how to unload a bolex 16 pro? I have got done shooting a 400 ft roll of film but could use some help unloading it. Anyway any help would be appreciated. Also if anyone knows where I could get a owners manual in English that would be great. Thanks in advance.
  11. Dom, Pushing my eye into the viewfinder worked. I really appreciate the help. I would never have known that. Do you know where I could get a user manual? I got some literature with the camera but it is in German. Some of the info is in English but the translation is really hard to read. Anyway thanks again
  12. Thanks for the reply, will test camera soon.
  13. I figured out how to set the f-stop, but now I can't see through the viewfinder? Any help
  14. Got the camera loaded. Does anyone know how to set the f-stop?
  15. The film was jammed, I cut the film and removed the magazine. How do I get the film out of the camera? I cut the film from the magazine how do I get it out of the camera housing? Any help would be appreciated.
