What are your thoughts on the visuals of this camera? Ideally I was after a 1/50 - 1/60 motion shutter, but returned a variable ND filter last week so I had to work around a cold buy sky with random low level clouds peaking bursts every now and then. I am after a true-match variable ND. I love the detail from this 24mp baby. If it were only a high bit rate camera it would be #1 in my opinion. I'm not too concerned that it doesn't have a cine gamma curve option like other DSLR's. In fact this quality reminds me of 2/3inch highly compressed ENG cameras. You could easily do wildly cinematography with this little guy. I had to apply some rolloff tint for the high skies in some shots. The second shot with the white horse was tricky because its high back is clipping, but I still wanted to maintain some high glare off the darker horses which looks ok. I switched around portrait and landscape color curve settings during the shoot. What I really need is an external monitor because I am not sure if my 3x hood viewfinder is accurately representing the color from the 3inch LCD, or perhaps this loaner laptop I'm using for travel atm has horrible color representation. It would be nice if this DSLR had a higher bitrate so that I could feel comfortable setting everything to Neutral color schemes with no hard contrast or sharpness. Let me know what you think. http://vimeo.com/42710260
  2. I just purchased an HPX-170 and I love Panasonic's 5 Year warranty with the HPX-170. Does that include the P2 card that came with it. I notice that P2 cards come with serials, and I purchased an extra one. Thank you.
  3. Can anyone recommend some good Film Stock emulator plugins?
  4. That's what I thought. I've noticed that this effect seems to happen during camera movements.
  5. you're referring to MP4 as well which is the Youtube format?
  6. How come some videos from all the cool HDSLR projects show these horizontal random quick artifacts and then the more professional style shoots don't? Is this a sort of camera motion bad motion effect? Can someone please explain how to avoid it, or is it because of Youtube's compression video algorithm and MP4?
  7. What if I shoot in 60i? Even more reliable? This is a digital realm yes
  8. Since 24FPS is universal, and "24P" is the film trend standard for digital, then it's ok for Europe since the project would have to be converted to pulled up or down to 25fps? For instance films can be converted to any region format worldwide correct? That's how the general were/are able to watch films in 30p or 25p. I'm just so confused with format restrictions. I just assume that when you publish a project you have the options to render to whatever format you wish. Therefore, does it matter nowadays with HDTV (or digital) to get the correct region? I've heard that marketers are still taking advantage of consumers knowing that most are now HDTV. If I shoot in 24P then I can publish to any format correct? Since 24p is 24fps. Films have to be converted.
  9. Just curious. Is it significantly different in motion? I've never shot in PAL. How close is it to regular 24fps? Thanks
  10. I just realized, like in audio production, that the best and most honest imaging of colors is the most reliable to work with. Can someone acknowledge this? For instance I noticed that Canon likes to market a "cinema" film look which should be a convenient function opposed to post production film look effects and processing time management. If one is good at post production color correction and effects then "cinema" look effects from a camera algorithm isn't that important? Isn't it better to work off a true raw image format. For instance I notice that Panasonic tends to focus on better processor imaging like Sony even to their small format camcorders. "Cinema" look effects, Canon reputation of imaging, and true 24P. I need help in deciding which camera to go with. Or any insights technically? thanks
  11. First of all I'm so HAPPY that Canon just announced their new range of cameras from their website as I've been checking almost everyday. Sadly, I'm leaving to Turkey on February 1st and I don't believe I'll be able to acquire any of these cameras yet =( Anyhow. Do I need to restrict myself to just PAL? Can't I just convert to PAL format in post? I heard nowadays with that with digital HD televisions in general non of that matters. Thanks
