  1. I studied at the UCA based in Farnham Surrey on the film production course and was able to use film (16mm) on 3 different projects and have been shown around the Arri and Panavision departments which the cinematography lecturers have good contacts with. it is a brilliant course and I am graduating this year and am working for a film production company based in central london already also i know people from my course that have found work in pinewood and shepperton studios. Also yes people have got jobs in New York which i thought i would state as phil is such a extreme fan of the USA and its fantastic film industry. I myself would love to get more experience in any part of cinematography as i know its a hard profession to get into and as Storaro states (in some words) "im always learning new things from cinematography, as like other art its a constant flow of work that constantly changes" and this is how i want to work and i would love to work with any one for free to gain as much experience as i possibly can and possibly eventually get a job in the industry and slowly work my way up. I am sorry about my grammar and spelling as I am severely dyslexic. thanks RIchard staff staff.richard@gmail.com
  2. 3. Hello world of cinematographers, Just a quick question really I dont post much on here I should really. Has any one watched a film recently but instead of watching it sound and all just muted the sound and watched the film? I am doing my dissertation on Vittorio Storaro and when he was young his father was a film projectionist (as most of you probably know) and he watched the films with out sound and I believe this culd be represented like looking at art in a gallery as nearly every frame is a masterpiece in most films cited and raved about on here. I was just wondering your thoughts or if you have read any thing about this latlely, due to The Artist being a silent film (kinda) and what you believe cinematographers can gain from watching just the image like a painting at an art gallery. (also a thing that Storaro does with referencing art to his work) Thank you for your time, RIchard Staff Douglas Slocombe Scholar Film Production student (cinematographer) UCA Farnham

  5. hello, I am about to go into my final year at the University of the creative arts in Farnham, Surrey, England and im writing a dissertation on how art influences cinematographers. i was wondering if any one has come across books/ articles or anything that could be helpful towards my dissertation? also if you have gained inspiration from a piece of art work (fine art, photography etc) and how you used it, maybe show some examples of how it connects would be brilliant. i want to show in my dissertation that cinematography isn't just point and shoot and that a lot of work goes into it with influences from art and other pieces of cinematography running through the cinematographers mind. this also maybe a bit of a broad question for my tutors but i thought i would start off big getting as my research as possible. so if you have any idea on how to cut this question down and make it more precise that would be a brilliant help, for example only using certain DOP's and films like how Matthew Libatique uses the influence of Goya in Requiem for a Dream. thank you for your time, richard staff 3rd year film production student studying cinematography.
