  1. I know that the next person in line of the crew gets the position of DP. That's not the point I was trying to make, that is irrelevant. It was saracasm to prove a point. You just didn't get that. Forget it. Aggrogance or confidence I think would be a better word will get you jobs. Of course when you are looking for a position as a DP, you should refer to yourself as a DP and not a camera op etc. But in the end what you say you can do and what you deliver are 2 different things. I'm not saying that your good or bad, I've never seen your work, this is for everyone. If you say you are great and you don't deliver, then you can be sure you'll never get a job w/ them again. Good news travels fast, worse news travels faster. With arrogance should come great knowledge and experience.
  2. Yes, that was another big factor in choosing a camera because I do want interchangable lenses. The G6 does come w/ a W/T lens adapter I believe or you can buy one for it. The lenses I saw for it costs around $200~. I just saw the reviews on the 300D and it looks pretty nice from what I can see right now thanks for the input I'll definately keep that in mind.
  3. 2k (sunlight) from window creating highlight on the screen left of his face. Bounced 1k on a whiteboard to (source supposed to be from lamp) A bit of practical light from a lamp right under the frame i think a 40w. Lamp in the background lit by a 1k from above. Which suprisingly came out like the lamp was on. image quality is a bit bad from the compression from avid to quicktime which i took a screencap from to post. XL2 + ps technik w/ panavision 35mm lenses. Pic is from a recent mid term I finished shooting for school. I still need lots more practice. It's great that I can see people and read about other ppls set ups and learn from that. edit : sorry the pic is so big :(
  4. I've been recently searching the market for a dslr type camera w/o the price. The closest I can think of getting one that's good for it's price range is the powershot g6. I was wondering if anyone has shot or owns this camera and what are your opinions on it? powershot g6 This site gives a great in-depth review on it but I would also like to know from DPs that have worked with these to get shots on set, point and shoot (beautiful shots handheld spur of the moment), and professional shots (manual + sticks). How is the quality of jpeg images transfered to the computer? Manual Focus Manual White Balance Manual Shutter Speeds Manual ISO Manual F-stops Are these easy to control on this camera, meaning do i have to go back and forth through the menus to get to all thse? The start up time and start to shoot I heard was not that great and it's one of the heavier cameras for the price range. So point and shoot on the fly might seem to be a bit tough. For pro shots it seems very nice and a 5 1/2 hour battery life, it much more than I could ask for. So I would like to know anyone opinions on who ever has shot or owned this camera before. P.S. This is a big step up from the 3.1 MP Nikon camera I've played around with. I'm taking heavy interest in to fine tuned shots hoping to get a vice telephoto lens for less depth of field. This is why I want to make sure I'm getting the best camera out there for the money I can spend, which is at $500 just for the camera. P.S.S. What sticks do you guys recommend? For a price range of about $50-$100
  5. you missed the sarcasm train, maybe you can catch the next one when it arrives.
  6. Yes. Like the person above me said, camera operators are the ones behind the camera most of the time. The assistant camera should be taking care of the cameras like cleaning/checking the gates, changing lenses, pulling focus etc. Therefor 1st AC has just as much control over the camera as the camera operator. DP - Director of Photography is exactly that. He directs the lighting and visual style of the project. He controls where the lights go and when he wants a certain light in a certain area, he will tell the gaffer. Lots of DPs do get behind the camera but on professional shoots, not really. Especially when there are more than 1 camera rolling. If the budget is tight and there's no money to hire a camera operator then yes the DP will get behind the camera or even the 1st AC. In the end it's really all up to the DP if he wants to be behind the camera or not. If he is confident about his lighting and his camera operator on framing and moving the camera well, then there's no need for him to be working the camera. If you were to catagorize a DP as "someone that controls the camera on shoots" then the camera operator and 1st AC should call themselves a DP.
