You can try some JB weld and then just sand t down using finer and finer grit sand paper until you get to wet sanding and you should end up with a pretty smooth surface.

thank you I will check those out. The thing about collaboration is the class s a little competitve and I dont mean to sound cocky but as far as cinematography goes i think I have the most experience. Thank you for the tips
This isn't secret sauce info- common lighting so despite what you think about the class you really need to take a step back and collaborate, even with those you think don't have as much "experience" as you do. Grab another student and tell him that you found info on this site suggesting a China ball with a skirt as well as suggestions on scenes to watch.

Where's the best place to buy muslin in LA?
I haven't really checked prices but LA RAG house is really easy to deal with and they have all the textiles in house so no running around town.

Studio Flash systems:
Flash duration decreases as you turn the power down on all Strobes. Some brands start out with a pretty short duration compared to others. Profoto and Broncolor both have the shortest flash duration and as you decrease the output the Flash duration gets even shorter. Monoblocs (all in one unit) units have even shorter duration but they are usually not as powerful in output as a Strobe head connected to a power unit.
can't help on shutter angle/speed issues.
On camera Flash:
Nikon and Canon both have pretty sophisticated units out now that may allow you to adjust then to your needs.

Hey Guy, I've read all your posts on the small gensets but wanted to get your thoughts on the difference between the standard 60amps bates modification

Compared to your system.
Thanks.

Hey Ed that's awesome, thanks. I'd love to stop down sometime once I get settled. Looks like I might wind up in the Pasadena area, which seems to make a bit of sense for me being able to walk to a few places; very important comping from the east coast... and i guess i'll just get used to traffic.
Alrighty then

Almost every neighborhood has a decent watering hole to offset the Hollywood/Sunset clubs :) My shop is a Stills Photo equipment rental place but if you need something or have a question about LA give me a shout

Hi Greg,
Circuit Breakers have a time frame/amperage limit above their listed amperage before they trip so that they can handle start up loads or brief surges in power but if the load exceeds the amperage for a certain time period then they will open.
Also you have to remember that the Power Company can have a 10 % + or - on the actual voltage in the wall so paper calculations could be off if you assume 120v at the wall receptacle and the actual voltage is lower.

The problem with Light Maker is that once it does go down, parts are hard to come by.
