  1. Hello, I am intending on filming some theatrical performances and am not sure what film would be best to buy. I normally use Ektachrome 100D - would this work under theatrical lighting conditions i.e. concentrated light? I have tried Tri x film which I have been told works well under these conditions before but I know Tri x is only available in B&W and I would ideally like to film the performances in colour. Any advice regarding film as well as how I can set my camera to work best under theatrical lighting would be very much appreciated (I will be using a Canon 814xl-s) Many thanks for your help!
  2. Thanks very much for your replies - I really appreciate it. If I put the film on the feed spindle the perfs are on the wrong side (on the right as seen from the front) and the emulsion is outside. I assume then that the lab have put the film on the wrong end? I will then just get hold of another empty reel and transfer it unless you can think of another way? Many thanks again! Sorry, yes it is a standard 50' reel.
  3. Hello, I have just got my first super 8 film back from processing but cannot project it. Basically, it won't feed properly into the threading slot as the perforations are on the wrong side. If I rewind it twice so the perforations are facing me (as demanded in the instructions for my projector) the emulsion (dull side) ends up being on the inside of the reel which I know is supposed to be on the outside?!? Could it be possible that the lab have put the film the wrong way around i.e. the leader should be on the other end? Sorry if this all sounds confusing. I really want to see the footage I shot but cannot work out how to solve the feeding problem without damaging the film. Any help and suggestions would be really appreciated!

  5. I am planning on making a documentary for a performance art event and am trying to work out the best way to capture the sound. The event is live and open to the public so there will be a fair amount of atmospheric sound. There will be about fifteen different performances in a wide-range of disciplines - video artists, dancers, sound artists etc. Most of the artists will be performing in the same area but others will use different parts of the venue and a few will be in completely different spaces. We are planning on having an 'A-Roll' camera fixed the whole time and two roaming cameras. Is there an easy solution where we can capture a good quality recording of the sound of the performances which I can then sync with the images? Previously we have just used the sound from the cameras but as you could probably guess it came out very choppy and inconsistent once we started editing. I am hoping to find a cheap make-shift solution as we have 0 budget and cannot afford to buy any expensive sound equipment and software. Many thanks for any advise!
