  1. Well, we looked at the new locations yesterday. I may be in luck because the action happens near the bottom of a ravine. The trees may develop problems because I dont think I can go above them. Yet, the hill next to the dip goes up a good 30-40 feet so that combined with a mombo should prove to be enough height. Frank, that idea about the giant soft source sounds great and I will definitley end up utlizing that for certain parts. the china balls sound like an alright idea but I would need to correct them with a full ctb to match the HMI sources. As a result I dont think they would do a whole lot. To fill in parts of the background Id rather just throw a 1200 par with a super wide lens across it. with some 251 or 216 over the frint of it. Let me know if you have any other suggestions though because I still forsee plenty of difficulties. What problems have you guys run into when shooting night exteriors?
  2. Hi, there. I'm new to this site but it seems like you have a nice community here and I could use some advice. I'm going to be gaffing a 35 mm short pretty soon. We are shooting on 7218, 500 asa 35mm stock. Its all outside at night, the story involves a couple of guys burying a dead person out in the woods. We're getting a 200 amp jenny, and a very small lighting package. We're using uncorrected HMIs for the blue look with the evening. Now I know that to really light this movie I need to get really high on condors with some 12 ks, so I can have a nice giant single soft motivated light. However, we are severly limited in our budget, I doubt I'll get a light bigger than a 4k HMI if that. As far as height we have nothing better than our 25 foot mombo combo stands. (unless we try rigging to the grip truck which I might try to do). I'm basically curious if you guys have had an experience with having to deal with such a small package and get good results during night exteriors. maybe something with bounced light? theres not too many wide shots but that doesn't matter, we're always generally going to be seeing the background. The car interiors can be done relatively well but I want it all to look good and be continous. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
