  1. Hi, I am looking at buying a G5 also. However I am hanging on for a few months because the rumours are that Apple are bringing out 3 new G5's. A new Dual 1.8Ghz, 2.2Ghz and a 2.4Ghz. It has also been rumoured that Apple are aiming to have their G5's up 2 the 3Ghz mark by 2005. Best way is to find out when the next MacExpo is and wait until then. Apple will almost certainly announce them then, if they do. If they do bring three new G5's out the older three will come down in price significantly. Prob best waiting until then if I were you, I am. As for software Final Cut Pro 4.0 is the industry standard. Please do not quote me on this as it is just a rumour (www.macrumours.com).
  2. Superb, just done it! Thanks very much for your help! :P
  3. I have looked in my Video Filters and can't find the limiting effect. I also did a search for it in the help menu. Couldn't find it? Are you sure FCP 3.0 has it?
  4. In Schindler's List how did they isolate the red colour of the little girls coat? Can this be done in After Effects or FCP 3.0? Thanks
  5. Anyone know where I can get hold of a 3x wide angle zoom lens for Canon XL-1/XL-1S? Are these lenses the same for PAL and NTSC or do they differ? Thanks
  6. Anyone seen THE Aussie film "Chopper"? What do the DOP's out there think of the cinematography in the film? I personaly think the lighting was really good. I'd be interested to see what other peope think.
  7. Maybe using an ND filter might help protect the CCD's if they do indeed need protecting!
  8. Superb thanks! Don't even know whether they'll let me but I wanted to do some research before I asked them. So cheers! P.S. Can't believe you've been in a Huey! Quality!
  9. Im looking at shooting some footage of Snowdonia, Wales for my next short. How would I go about mounting my XL1S to a 'search and rescue' helicopter for some aerial footage. I know this sounds like a bit of a stupid question, and a funny one at that, but I am curious none the less. The other thing I am concerned about is the camera freezing over which could cause some major problems to the camera, obviously. How do I overcome this, LOW BUDGET! Is it possible, is it sensible to try it? Probably not!
  10. Hey, come on 3 pints is alot for a student! :D
  11. Ever heard the expression "ask a teenager, while he knows everything?" seeing as your only 2 years off I think it still applies! ;)
  12. Cheers, would you say it's worth my while subscribing, I've never seen a copy? Would I learn much from it?
  13. Hi, looking for some work experience to do with DP on any film doco etc. currently studying Film an Video in Manc. , England. Really want to make the next step to the big time, sooner rather than later. Just been making as many short films as possible so far, so anyone who need any help doing anything on set, PLEASE let me know! I'm really keen to get some experience in a working environment!!!!!! There must be someone out there!!! P.S. I'm very passionate about what I do, or want to do in the future so let me know Cheers Guy
  14. Would you rate it better than the XL1S then I guess. Obviuosly I would without doubt rather work in film than video and I would relish the chance to experiment with film had I got the dosh. People are always trying to make video look like film but why not try to give it it's own aesthetic rather than trying to imitate film. Just a thought. Anyone know of any good filters I can download for After Effects 5.5 for free?
  15. 1. What's the difference between DP and Cinematographer? 2. Also (and I know i'm gunna offend some people with this) what's all the fuss about the Panasonics DVX 100A? Does it even have an interchangable lens? :)
  16. A few questions if anyone would be good enough to answer them for me. 1. Can anyone tell me if this book (American Cinematographer Video Manual) would be useful to a student who only has access to video at the moment? I am attempting to teach myself the theory of cinematography so would it be a good purchase anyway? 2. Is there a British version of the magazine 'American Cinematographer" as it could be difficult trying to subscribe to it from the U.K. 3. Finally what is the difference between a DP and a cinematographer? Cheers!
  17. What do people think of the XL1S? I want a wide-angle lens for it but I can't afford the Canon wide zoom. Whats the best SLR LENS option using the EF adaptor?
  18. Wow! Thanks for those brilliant replies! I've been studying Film an Video for 3 years now and only in the last sixth months I've realised I want to get myself into the world of cinematography! Since even at degree level it still isn't at the level I would expect. I have started reading Blain Browns book on cinematography and I can honestly say it's the best book I've ever read. Absolutely fascinating, and has opened my eyes up to so much! I'm really excited about attempting to enter the world of cinematography, it seems such an incredible subject to learn and be a part of. Up until now I have mainly been interested in photography and I now realise cinematography is a step forward from taking stills. I recently met Brian Tufano who is a real gentleman and a great inspiration. What a great website this is that I can come and speak with people in the business that I want to be in. Another quick and simple question? Not. How can I go about breaking into the industry other than making my own films? How did you do it? Cheers, Guy
  19. Two questions if anyone can answer them for me: Anyone know the difference between XL1S DM and the XL1S? Think it could be the mic. Secondly, without forking out £1000 for the proper Canon Wide angle zoom lens for the XL1, can I buy a good wide-angle SLR lens I can use on my XL1S with the SLR lens adaptor? Cheers
