  1. my first thought was it wasn't keyed. my CG people said it was ... thnx for your feedback ... very valuable! we almost skipped the idea of trying it out just ... shooting. ...
  2. https://vimeo.com/54553882 is the best app commercial i have seen so far. very natural movements, no static backhand and many other details i like about this. most important i love the natural feel. question is, how was it done. here are my guesses, but i have literally no experience with this kind of shot. despite it looking so natural it is keyed, but from 4K footage. the movements on the phone seem very natural, so i guess they used some screenshot of the app photoshopped into a green version and clicked on that one. allowing the natural feel even in the closeups and with the backhand constantly moving a little. please share your thoughts ... thnx g
  3. i feel these comparisons are usually a little unfair. with ones own gear one knows how to get the max out of it in both shooting and post. from this clip alone one could argue that a red is not much better than a 5D, which is misleading IMHO.
  4. starting this thread in order to share what almost makes me wet my pants out of shere enjoyment when i see it: great frames. feel free to show yours ... starting with one frame out of "the master". amazing whites, wonderful darks. vermeer could have painted this. cu g
  5. "benedict, a priest in his forties, believes he can talk to god. after a seizure-like trance he is hospitalized, put on medication for weeks and finally 'healed'. he escapes, looks to find again his connection with god. on the way he helps a prostitute injured by a violent client. yet she dies from her wounds a day later, leaving him now hunted for murder - by the police and the girl's two brothers. the story of a perverted insane priest makes headlines everywhere. benedict roams for months in the countryside, living from nothing, desperately looking for his spiritual identity, not knowing that he is hunted and ridiculed in all media. finally the brothers find him." that's the story in a nutshell. we shoot with a sony F3, a set of zeiss primes. have some arri fresnels and some LED banks. style wise i'd like to do some freestyle handheld, but not too much, not too nervous. here is some footage of a test shoot, we tested both rig and crew. very rough cut and audio is terrible, 'cause not post produced. only sounds nice within my studio. sorry for that ... https://vimeo.com/58289276 whole thing is one of those crazy ideas i want to walk away from three times a day, yet keep coming back. motivation for this thread is to maybe hear from people who are as crazy as myself. i have hardly any film world connection ... so talking to others is already quite something. thnx for reading, thnx for watching. g
  6. if you can by any means have second camera as wider shot or different angle, it makes the final thing so much more interesting. if you don't have anything better and can shoot in daylight, use an iphone. is full HD after all. buy a little glider for it on amazon for 5o,- and you have some camera moves as well. shooting hawai can be a big positive. great light, great landscape. take him sitting alone atthe beach, reflecting on his former life. or as part of a family beach party, interviewing others about him. what the think about him, what they actually know about him. get inspiration out of great documentaries with similar topics. bruce weber's piece on chet baker comes to mind. go for it. g
  7. i have a similar situation. decided to make a no budget feature. lucky i have some equipment at hand for free (sonyf3, zeiss primes, good audio), but, hell, much work. keeping actors happy, getting free, yet beautiful locations, organizing a f^ckin' lot more than i want to ... as you sound, mate, you have to do it or regret it for ever. just one thought. i would go with where the material takes you.
