i am new to this site...i recently left one career to pursue a passion in filmmaking.
i have written a number of scripts for full features and shorts. also have written outlines for 5 documentaries. i would like to begin shooting but need help selecting a camera....i have been suggested a sony hvr zu1. also lighting and sound are question marks. the first doc. will have 25-40% filmed outdoors. the destination for this first doc. will be festivals and educational use. the camea i ultimately select will be used for shooting docs. when i move to shorts and full features i will probably purchase a different camera. my budget is 5-10k. for this doc camera.
any suggestions, also live close to ny...is there a place to rent a few different ones to try out then select?
