  1. Dang, Adrian, that sounds pretty bad. Did the bullet actually hit you or where they just shooting in your direction? Not really set harassment, but I know someone who worked on Straight Outta Compton and they said that one of the days they were shooting in Compton a guy came walking right past them dripping in blood who had just got shot next door or down the street.
  2. This. I've been doing this a lot more recently than I did when I first became interested in cinematography. I now have much more of an appreciation for art and paintings than I did in the past. They really were the true masters of composition and lighting.
  3. Hey all, I was curious as to how beneficial it would be to work at a rental house on my path to becoming a DP. I'm heading out to LA for the summer to stay with my aunt and was going to look for an internship/job at a small rental house. What are some of the pros and cons to working at a rental house? I know of someone who works at one currently and has gotten on dozens of commercials as well as a big budget feature recently and works as a MoVI Operator and Tech, so obviously the one he works at doesn't seem to be so time consuming that he can't get on gigs. And he's only been working for a little over a year. Also, if I choose to go this route, how could I stand out and make a good impression when applying to one? Thanks!
  4. Quentin Tarantino, as well as many others. Just because you go to film school doesn't mean you're ahead of everyone else. I've learned so much about film making, just from the internet and reading books in these past 4 months it's unbelievable. So I'm not planning on going to film school and spending 10,000+ dollars just to learn things I already know and can teach myself by experience. http://www.nofilmschool.com
  5. Thanks for the feedback! I was trying to go for a blue/cool look. Also, for me, I like heavier cc's and grades so that's why this one seems so harsh. I see these in a lot of music videos and I've been doing these for a while so It's harder for me to make a simple grade because it just seems somewhat too bland for me. Like you said though, it's just preference really. I'll try making a simpler grade next time I do one of these :)
  6. I did a color grading video for a CG contest. Feedback would be awesome! Thanks! http://vimeo.com/m/55575595
  7. Hey guys! I just joined this site today and am hoping to learn a lot and connect with a lot of people. Currently I'm 15 and in the 10th grade and have a passion for cinematography and filmmaking. I've been video editing for years but more recently (roughly 1 1/2 years ago) got serious about it. I've started working more with the film aspect of filmmaking this year as I'm now taking an AV Production class at my school and i'm loving it. I've always been working in post but have only more recently starting to do more things with cinematography. So anyways, I was wondering if film school was really worth it? I know quite a lot of things already about cinematography and film production and from this site and others I could learn so much more, without having to go to film school. Many people say that it's a waste of money and unless you're going to film school with very little to no knowledge of filmmaking, then I'd probably agree. But I want to hear from some people on here who have had experience. I'm also starting to make some connections with music video editors/directors and independent cinematographers so I can get help from them as well. I'll also post some of my work from youtube on here when I get the chance and I've recently made a vimeo so I will post it there as well. Thanks and I look forward to connecting with a lot of you!
