For sale is my beautiful 2-perf (Techniscope) Arri 3C (IIIC) camera package. This camera was never a rental and it looks like it's hardly ever been used, it's in such beautiful condition. I've owned it since 2009 and during that time I found and bought an original Arri factory 2-perf conversion kit, which was installed by the technicians at Clairmont Camera in North Hollywood. I'm guessing everyone here knows why 2-perf is so great. But just in case... basically you get twice the run time from the same amount of film. A 400' roll of 35mm film running at 24 fps lasts about 8 minutes instead of the usual 4 minutes. A 200' short end is suddenly not a pain to work with since it lasts about 4 minutes. So that means you spend half as much money on film stock and processing since that's paid by the foot, too. The aspect ratio is naturally 2.40:1 at the gate so it's well suited to that cinemascope look, but much less expensive than anamorphic on film stock/processing (not to mention lens rental costs). If you wanted to shoot 1.85:1 on this camera, you could have the ground glass pencilled with two vertical lines to create 1.85 within the 2.40, and you'd still have roughly twice as much negative area than if you shot 1.85 on Super 16. I know of a feature film that just wrapped which did exactly that. Some recent and beautifully-shot 2-perf films: "Hunger", "Shame", "The Place Beyond the Pines", "American Hustle", "The Fighter", "Silver Linings Playbook", to name a few. I've created an album on Flickr with quite a few photos. On the wide photo with everything, you may notice two smudges. I've erased two items which I realized after the fact have no relevance or use with this package. I've also included some frame grabs from a music video I made with this camera after the 2-perf conversion. It was a joy to shoot with, performing flawlessly with not one instance of a hair in the gate. It was almost entirely shot with short ends of 200' or less. If you're not familiar with the 3C, you could think of it as the final refinement of the 2C before the Arri 35-3 came out, mostly designed as a result of engineering Arri did to the 2C for the German WW2 film "Das Boot". It has an orientable door which keeps the horizon level as you reposition the eyepiece up or down (on the 2 doors here that let you swivel the eyepiece up/down). It has a more sturdy hinged door (not interchangeable with the Arri 35-3 door), unlike the metal prongs which hold the 2C door to the body. That design was never intended for the weight of a Jurgen's video door and I've seen a few 2C bodies that are wearing out where these prongs grip, making it risky that the door could fall off. The 3C came from the factory with a PL mount, and it has a very nice crystal handgrip motor which is often sought after since it works just as well on the 2C. Something else I like about the 3C, they have a variable shutter, something that's hard to find on a 2C. The 3C also has a rosette for mounting accessories, right by the inching knob. The 2C doesn't have that. This is a beautiful example of the very rare Arri IIIC. The 3C movement is the same as the 2C movement and motors, mags and of course ground glasses are interchangeable. It took me many years to assemble this package so at least initially, I won't consider splitting off pieces of it. Thanks, Tim! I've found some Tobin motors have a shaft that extends out further than others. For example, the shaft on my older TXM-22 is longer than the one on my TXM-22A. The rubber plunger seems to barely touch my A's advance shaft when that "telephone dial" knob on the blimp is pushed in, and won't advance the shutter. Though I don't remember if i ever tried it, I think the older Arri variable speed or constant speed motors would work fine since they have a cup-shaped advance knob that the arrow-shaped plunger would fit right into. I wonder how many people out there know what we're talking about :)

I'm selling my 16mm Arriflex 16M camera with 3x 400' mags and variable speed motor. Camera was purchased from forum member Tim Carroll maybe 2-3 years ago if I remember right. I had it checked out by a technician and shot a registration test after I got it and it checked out fine. I like the 16M for it's hinged door, simple threading and gear-driven mags (as opposed to the 400' mags for the 16S which have their own separate torque motor). It comes with a camera, but just think of that as a bonus since the camera may not be worth a whole bunch. I've never shot with it, or with the included mags. I bought it off Craigslist from a DP/Operator on the other side of the country about a year or two ago and one technician who looked at it told me some of the design choices in converting this camera to S16 looked risky and shooting with it may not be worth the risk. I've heard this is one of two or three 16S cameras converted to S16/PL mount by Van Diemen in the UK. It seemed to run fine and the previous owner promised he shot lots of footage on it with no problems so maybe I'm just being paranoid. But! It came with this awesome motor. I actually like it better than the final refinement, the TXM-22A, since the "A" model can't run in reverse. Also included are two of the rare 200' mags for the 16S, although as I mentioned, I never tested them, so this is all "AS IS". There are also two 400' 16S mags. Each mag has it's own torque motor, and I was told by the person I bought these from that they've all been upgraded to be 12V compatible. There is no case for the mags. The camera body case is a bit old looking but still latches closed firmly. The foam is a bit of a mess. No power cables or batteries or lenses are included. I'm selling my very rare Arriflex 16 Fiberglass Blimp. This is for use with either a 16S or a 16M and and mounting plates for both are included. This was purchased a few years ago from forum member Tim Carroll who also ran the great website www.arri16s.com. Tim did a beautiful job of restoring this gorgeous piece of film history. The lens pictured is not included. The 16M camera and mags are not included, although they are for sale separately (see separate listing). They are in these photos only to demonstrate how a camera would fit inside the blimp. I also am separately selling a Tobin TXM-22A motor that would go very well with this blimp. The blimp's shutter advance knob seems just a few mm too short to reach the Tobin's knob, so you may want into fashioning an extension on the rubber knob that reaches toward the motor on the inside of the blimp. One of the two latches is broken on the wooden shipping case but everything made it to me ok with that broken and it's always held shut firmly enough with just the one latch. Also, the power cable that connects a 12V battery (4-pin Cannon) to the outside of the blimp will need to be rewired if you intend to use the blimp for anything besides decoration. This cable provides power for the camera inside to run, as well as power for the interior lightbulbs so you can push buttons and see things inside like the fps tachometer. The cable was just old and brittle and started melting in one spot (a couple of photos are included). The connectors both look fine, so I would guess a technician could make you a replacement cable or two. I just haven't had time to get that done. The seals on the two doors (the top magazine door and the side camera body door) don't seem quite as tight as they were a few years ago so that may be one other thing to have checked if you intend to use it for the purpose it was designed. When I first got this from Tim, it did an amazing job of silencing a very noisy 16S, but I have not tested it recently. The thought that went into the intricate design of this blimp is really impressive. It is in excellent condition. I would love to keep this as decoration for my apartment but I moved to NYC a few months ago and there just isn't space. $800 O.B.O. Please send me a PM if interested.
