After a few more minutes with the camera I seem to have intuited my soft focus issue. I was simply trying to focus on faraway objects while in macro mode. I have located the manual exposure knob; however, I cannot read the indicator at the bottom of the viewfinder. And should not the depth of field be affected by adjusting the aperture? I see no difference.

I am a novice filmmaker who recently purchased an Elmo Super 8 1012s-XL. I'd like to know if there is anyway to verify the functionality before putting in film. Also, does this camera work by auto exposure because I don't see any aperture adjustment? My final query is due to the fact that I can only get a crisp picture by adjusting the zoom. Adjusting the focus seems to only give me soft edges unless I'm in the sweet spot on the zoom. Thank you in advance for any advice.
