Hello crew. While I know the majority of you are likely working in the feature film/TV category, I'm working in the web video & internal video category. For example, I create small web videos for companies (example) and also internal corporate videos for agencies. I am looking for some help to word an introduction proposal in an email where I will introduce myself to companies and hope they respond, wanting a meeting and then outsourcing work. So... I am appealing to two different target markets. Above & Below the line Advertising Agencies. Small to medium sized Production Companies. I need some guidance with regards to making a memorable and intriguing introduction that doesn't appear to be spam or a mass email. I am thinking along the lines of: Hello <contacts name> (I'll make each intro uniquely out to the person/creative director/producer etc) My name is Yash & I'm a so and so who does this and that. Here is an example below: <showreel link on youtube/vimeo> If you would like to get in touch, please don't hesitate to contact me on <details> and I'll be happy to meet with you to discuss your needs. So that's the VERY basic initial draft template idea. Should I add in rates? For example my day rate for filming or my rate to for 1 minute of 2D animation? Should I mention that film is my passion or does that tend to become a hard sell, I really don't want to make it a hard sell. All thoughts and insights valued. Thanks.

Hi guys. None of those...sorry but thanks. Here is something. Now this has one difference to what I want to achieve. In this, the subject is part of the hyperlapse, I want the subject to be keyed and composited from a 24p shot. In other words, we will have a normal clip of a person walking (normally, realtime, no lapses) with their background being lapsed. Has anybody done this????? Hi. I'm planning a video that integrates a slow moving hyperlapse with a green screened actor over it. Has this been done before? If so please could someone post some links. Reason being: Would love some reference, perhaps bts if I'm so lucky, and to get a feel for it before I try it. Thanks

Say for example your day rate for shooting is $250. You get asked to shoot for one day, so that's $250 you charge. BUT... There is travel involved, while covered & paid for by the client, it also means you spend 1 day travelling, 1 day not doing anything so that you're there early to account for delays, 1 day shooting, and then 1 day waiting until the evening for your flight. How does one quote for "downtime" which could be used to earn money from local clients? Please advise.

Thanks for the feedback so far. So regarding the website, mine is www.lucid-media.co.za - I'm sure it looks professional enough? The reel is right below the welcome slider. I've had the pleasure of working regularly with some agencies in Canada and India etc so far, and it's been great. Mainly corporate/Unilever internal videos. I'm not looking for the big stuff. I've signed up to some websites and listed myself as a crew member, let's see how it goes. BTW: Craigslist isn't big here, not at all, but would anybody recommend posting there as well? The only thing I know about that site are jokes about how dodgy it is, mainly through those Conan skits... :D

I'm a DOP based in South Africa and I'm wondering what websites you use to seek international camera operators etc. Reason being, I'd love to work with more international clients and expand.

What is the main reason that shots are composed like this, with the balance of the space BEHIND the subject instead of AFTER their line of sight?

What is the status quo, as a freelancing director/cam op/editor, to introduce yourself to a new company for work? Is it just a matter of creating a solid showreel, backed by your website, and then looking up their contact email and sending a happy introduction? Or is there perhaps something more I'm missing. Hi forum. A client has tasked me to film multiple takes of a medical injection - and I'd rather not stab a poor actor multiple times so what options do I have? For reasons I will not go into detail for, I cannot use a dummy object, CGI would be the best option. Are there any tutorials out there on this? Has anyone done anything simliar? Thanks

Thanks John. What I'm looking for are some artistic ground rules so I can better direct the pilot. We have come up with some basic terminology like flying an arc, pivoting around a point of interest, a reveal shot (like flying over water and then tilting up to reveal a skyline), so I'm just looking for some more "official terms" and techniques that are used by Hollywood professionals

We all know that there are now 1000x more "drones" in the air like the Phantom's than ever before, and I am well aware of noobs who buy it just for fun and then risk crashing into other people... These should be used with care because there is far more responsibility in your hands. WITH THAT OUT THE WAY, HERE IS MY POST: Where can I find tutorials regarding aerial cinematography and techniques? I want to learn the art of shots like "the reveal", orbiting shots, best focal lengths for shooting a car on the highway versus lenses for filming skyscrapers and foreground objects... etc etc. I am looking for something on the level of the Hollywood camera works tutorials. Hi there. If one is lucky enough to be asked to quote on selling usage rights of a video for 1 year and global usage, how does one price it? Someone advised me to work out what I would charge to make it in the first place, then add a 600% markup for global usage. Apparently many producers use 600% as a guide for global licensing. Can anyone please give some advice or shed any light on the subject? Thanks
