True. But still I don't feel comfortable working with my name in Europe or US. People can't spell it which leads to some sort of tension and misunderstanding between us.

Hi guys, I have a question about pseudonyms in film industry nowadays. I was born in East Europe and my name is not very appealing for viewers. I mean, who would buy a movie made by Vladimir Ahmatov for example. It's a different market. I'm aiming for American and British market, while my name sounds very Red. I was thinking, If I'll be using a pseudonym for my movies instead of real name would there be a problem with contracts and legal stuff? There is no possibility at the moment to change my legal name to the one I wish to use. I'd be grateful for your suggestions.

Hello, I purchased an old Birns & Sawyer Range Finder (Model IIIB) on my last trip to Los Angeles. I still can't properly figure out how to use it. It has a table on the side, any help on how to read it?

Cheap Course in Europe
Vadim Joy replied to Ayberk 's topic in Students, New Filmmakers, Film Schools and Programs
In London you have variety of courses. Short courses can be around 1200GBP and about 4 months long. But that's private film schools. If you want to go to film school with reputation expect to pay 9000+GBP for 1 year course. Plus London is expensive city. If you're on a budget and new to filmmaking I'd recommend Raindance Film Festival, they have good courses. Otherwise if you have money to spend go to MET Film School, London Film Academy or London Film School. -
Thanks Adrian. As always you're one of the first to reply. Good tips. I was thinking maybe there are some useful websites? Also, let me know what do you think about my work so far please. I'd love to hear your opinion.

Hello everyone, I'm Vadim. I'm moving to Los Angeles in January 2015 from London, UK. Here in England I'm freelance cameraman, can't say I make much but enough to pay my bills. My question is how do you start working as freelancer in a big city like Los Angeles. The fact that I don't know anyone there scares the s**t out of me to be honest. Here is a link to my Vimeo page, let me know what do you think.

New firmware update for BMCC 2.5K coming or not?
Vadim Joy replied to Vadim Joy's topic in BlackMagic Design
Once again, they added all featured requested by filmmakers to 4K camera and completely ignored 2.5K model forgetting that only because 2.5K were popular they were able to build 4K. Personally my interest and respect to this company starts to dissolve. -

I cannot find that command online, please post it if you find it. Will be useful for a lot of people who use Marantz. Thanks.

Thanks Michael. I'm not an electrician myself. Can you find flicker boxes online? -

Lighting a beach scene at night with no generator
Vadim Joy replied to Vadim Joy's topic in Lighting for Film & Video
No problem. I don't think there will be big campfire, the place is not that big itself and they won't risk being spotted filming without permit there. But who knows. -
Thanks Freya, I appreciate it. I ordered few cables. Will do some tests when they arrive.

Well, that picture is an example only of something my eye likes. I agree the fire color is overexposed, I'd like to show it in its vivid colors. -

Guy that's a hell of advice, thanks! Definitely will be helpful. -
Like this: Marantz > RCA - male xlr > female xlr - 1/4 jack > camera
-
Wouldn't it be easier if an electrician can simply change 1/4 to xlr to make it balanced? And then run xlr to 1/4 into the camera?
