  1. thanks david, but what is with the lens-speed. I decide to take the Zeiss T1.3 because there is very low light and the p+s adapter takes me 2 stops. Is my decision right? what is with the T2.0 primes? I think the combination of p+s-adapter plus a zoom lens will not work because of the low light situation. maybe I can put some lights in the hidden corner of the doors, the part we don't see in frame, but so I have no chance to light from the top to the ground (I marked it in the picture). Very difficult, but I have to work with that location.
  2. Hi dudes, I will shot an short film in an few weeks and I decided to shot with an Canon XL2 in 25p /16:9 modus with manual white balance. The location is an long hotel corridor with many neon-lights on the ceiling and over the doors. Now I have two problems: 1) It's the first time I use the P+S-adapter so I don't really know (cause I shot only DV-formats) what lenses I should take. I decide for some PL-mount Zeiss lenses with T 1.3 (18, 35, 50, maybe 80). 2) The hotel manager don't let us work at the lightning, that means I can't built in some flos etc. on the ceiling. What lightning setting would work? I have no idea. Maybe I use one 4bank-flo on the dolly but than the frame will lost some depth. Maybe I can bounce some light in the corridor from the camera angle. What can I do? (It's the same location as the attachted picture) Thanks for help
  3. Happy Birthday from Germany, Tim! I wish all your dreams come true. Thanks for your work here.
  4. Someone of you dudes see films from guy maddin? I think it's a genius in creating his own 1920th-style. Maybe someone can tell me where to find this stuff, because here in germany it is very difficult to get some copies.
  5. Thanks a lot David, by the way: I'm not so long on the board here, but you, Mr. Pytlak, Kevin and a lot of other dudes are so kindly in answering questions from a lot of unexperienced dudes like me. I would say thank you a 1000 times for that, dudes. It's not High Definition but High Niveau :-)

I think the XL2 in 16:9 mode is the right decision, but if your budget allows take an p+s mini35digital-adapter with it, so you have a great depth of field (like 35mm). Don't play with the gain! It's in my opinion like playing with fire. Another good camera is the JVC GY-DV500 (1/2-CCD with some more depth of field as the 1/3-CCD-Xl2 but less resolution). Look at this pic I shot with the JVC http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...?showtopic=4556 Hope it help you to make your decision.
  7. Dear Mr. Pytlak, thak you for the fast answer. Now I got it. But there is one more question (it has nothing to do with film stock but I want to know): How does interior super8mm lightmeters work? There is quite a difference to my referenced external lightmeter? I keep in mind, that there is a reason, why the super8mm lightmeters-apperature row only seems to be so but I can not remind where I read it? Maybe you can help me. Thanks a 1000 times Alex
  8. Thank you guys, but there is still one thing what I don't understand. E.g. I have here a cartridge of a KODAK plus-X reversal film 7276 (standard S8 film stock). On the box is the notice: daylight (with filter) EI32/16 tungsten (without filter): EI40/17. In my eyes it means, that this stock is slower by daylight or am I wrong? And what sort of filter they are talking about? Maybe somebody (maybe Mr. Pytlak) can explain it to me. (Sorry for my bad english!) Greetings Alex

  10. Thanks Kevin, but what is with 85-Filters or 80 Filters. I don't need them when I shot b&w film stock, am I right?
  11. Maybe my question is stupid, but is b/w-film stock sensibilized for tungsten or daylight? What's about the colour temperature? Do I use daylight/tungsten-filters? Greetings Alex
  12. Hello, I'm pretty a newbie here and I'm looking for some folks from germany, maybe berlin. Maybe we could work together or drink a beer and talk about cinematography or something else. Are you out there? Greetings Alex
  13. Thank you all, my first choice was the sekonic zoom master 608 C, but it cost about 700 bucks, so I mean cheap is all below 700 bucks :-). I check the sekonic 398 and I will have a look in other threads. Thank you guys. Greetings Alex
  14. I shot this picture with an JVC GY-DV500-Camera. I shot the hole movie coloured and made it b/w during the post. I prefer the JVC GY-DV500, because it has an 1/2-CCD which made a bit more depth of fields. But to answer your question: I would shot coloured an made it b/w during the post. Afterall you have the most possebilities. Greetings Alex
  15. Hi, I'm looking for an cheap cine-lightmeter. Does anybody know a cheap and good lightmeter solution for me? Thanks a lot Alex
  16. I want to buy this lightmeter. Till now I only worked with digital video, where I doesn't need such a good lightmeter. So if anybody has an opinion about this lightmeter, please write it down here. Maybe there are another good lightmeters out there. If yes, which are these. Thanks Alex
  17. sorry, I've seen the book category to late. sorry, i'm new.
  18. Hello dudes, I'm new here and I'm a rookie in 35mm filming. I shot films only in all knowable DV fomats (incl. feature films) and now I want to shot on film. I'm very nervous because I had a lot of respect in 16 or 35mm filming because I never been on an filmschool. I'm the learning by doing fraction. Does anybody know a good book where is written down how the things work? Thanks a lot, greetings Alex
