  1. I doubt he's lying. I'm surmising here: If he is rehousing perhaps he is recessing the lens elements deeply inside the PL mount ( if they are small enough in diameter) I imagine it would be an expensive proposition.

Any optical experts here that can weigh in?

  2. I think Switars are all C mount, so there would be no way to use them on PL mount as the flange distance is too short.

They would fit directly on the ACL though. You could try a large diameter focus gear to help with focus pulls.

I too would like to see how they perform wide open or around T2

  3. Howabout Rokinon/Samyang lenses in Nikon mount? You can get 10mm, 16mm, 24mm etc , manual aperture, inexpensive, and will certainly cover Super 16. But Mitch is right, a proper cine zoom will be better for a lot of reasons

  4. I have a bolex H16 Battery (black plastic case with XLR) that I need to open and recell. There are 4 bolt heads recessed on each side, but there is no way to get onto them. Any advice on opening it up?

  5. The quote, hmmm. I think he means that lighting can be too formulaic, too expected. Maybe that's what he means by the KinoFlo being too perfect, looks just like a window, can end up fill everywhere and be dull. Hopefully one of the lighting masters will chime in here. David Mullen?

  6. The HMI will simulate moonlight. It will appear blueish with camera set to white balance at 4200K color temperature. The kino flo will fill in the foreground and be gelled to a different color, to simulate a foreground light such as a table lamp or streetlight.

The exact placement of the lights will be determined by what ratios and mood you like.

  7. Try the 575 (HMI) from 3/4 high & behind. Place the kino flo as fill, but gel the color to be motivated from a street lamp, or table lamp etc from the setting. Set the camera white balance to 4200K. The color contrast will add some interest.

    Another Khondji quote:

Too often lighting is where it "should" be.

  8. John Clark is right you need a blimp if outdoors You may find you need some lavs also. And a mixer....

A mic is like a lens. It depends on where and how you're using it, and what it's attached to.

You may want to check dvxuser or some of the sound design discussion boards for more detailed info.

  9. It matters if you'll be using the mic indoors or out, and room conditions on the indoors. You'll need at least an additional preamp to get decently clean tracks on the Zooms. Also important- you need someone to handle the recording, if you'll be handling the camera.

Look at an AT875R for an inexpensive all around mic, but it's better to have a shotgun for outdoor and a hyper for live rooms.
