Soho Images is fine for processing but they don't offer the best rate or quality for telecine. In my experience, Len Thornton has been helpful but has proved very elusive at times, which is part of the reason I've never telecined there (well once). The Machine Room has better tk gear and did us a nice rate. Also Goldcrest are very nice, very helpful and may offer a better price (maybe not as good equipment as MR but how amazing does it really need to be?). Good luck! p.s. i'm currently living in ireland and looking to spend about £4000 (5800euro or 7500usd) on a used 16mm camera kit. the chances of finding a decent used camera in ireland are slim so it looks like i'll be importing. the simplest option is obviously to import from the uk but i'd be willing to get it from anywhere that has a lower final cost. i assume that purchasing from north america would mean a bevy of import duties (does anyone have any experience with this?) and i'd like very much to not have to deal with us customs (but i would). furthermore (!) i'd like it to be quiet and ideally, but not necessarily, super16. if anyone can suggest a suitable dealer i can contact, or help in any way, i'd be very appreciative. thanks!
