  1. Currently no its not possible, Im talking like 15 or 20 years down the line, Once I get bored of the lovely rain :P
  2. Thats true, I have family very close to central brsitol so I guess thats an option too.
  3. God this thread is confusing, So much conflicting information, Im still going to head into the industry, Do running (If I cant support myself right away I have savings to help give me a boost so im not going to become homeless or whatever) for a couple years so I can then get my NVQ (Thats what the grip branch told me is the best route) Do my NVQ then have a full on stab at becoming a top class grip, Eventually moving up to dolly grip (and maybe technocrane/crane work after that) and maybe even look at getting work eslewhere in the world, Namely LA (the us just seems to fit 'me' if that makes sense). Its all many many years down the line and thousands of hours of hard work, But Ill be damned if I don't get their! Once Ive got this Diploma out of the way I can get on with it all. The only thing so far that I am a little undecided on is; London or manchester, Im leaning a lot towards to london even if it is much higher living cost, Because I feel like thats where all the film work is based and that is where eventually I would like to end up. None of the above may make much sense, I am tired and just sort of threw my thoughts at the screen and hoped the would make a sentance
  4. Yeah Ive been reading this blog for a couple weeks its fantastic and ive picked up some really valuable tips from it.
  5. Ive got those in my amazon basket ready to be ordered as soon as I can afford it.
  6. I spoke to someone just this morning from the grips branch and I got most of the information I needed, Its all a bit crazy with the amount of information but it really helped and so did the comments on here, I think im finally finding some direction, Thanks very much for all your responses.
  7. Ahh I missed that sorry, I did send an email to grips branch, Ill get another email sent to the other places.
  8. Yeah youve said this several times, The only problem is, I cant get the NVQ's until I have worked under 6 key grips in at least two years, Thats where im lost :(
  9. "To apply to take the qualification an individual must have been working professionally as a Grip or Crane Tech for a minimum of 2 years within the industry, and must supply a detailed CV plus references." This the part I was talking about in the OP from that site, Im enquiring about the other one you linked though.
  10. This actually was the film that made me go "Im going to do that some day!"
  11. Yeah I know, Thats why Im so interested in it because getting to work with all the dollys/cranes ect is exactly what I want to do.
  12. Ahh I should of specified, My goal is to become just a straight up grip. Maybe a dolly grip later on down the line, I love doing manual labour which is why the change of heart from IT.
  13. This is awesome, will have to show it my friends to explain what I want to do.
  14. Hi, Im 18 currently studying network and systems but I love film and all the behind the scenes and dont want to sit behind a desk for the rest of my life. I live inbetween leeds and manchester and have absolutly no idea where to get started, I dont finish till early june but I'd love to start getting experience on set. I found a lvl 2 and lvl 3 nvq specifically in gripping but I have to have worked as a grip for two years before being able to apply (seems a bit backwards to me? ) Where do I start? Just to note; I could move to london and use my trust fund to get me off the ground to do what I would absolufly love too. Thanks in advance :)
