hey dude there is a brand of fairly bright led panel called the cream source which has a built in adjustable flicker setting which I can personally vouch looks pretty great as a small source lightening/flicker/strobe effect.

Can anyone think of any work possibilities in the film industry around camera/production which are regular, 9-5 kind of jobs. They are good alternatives/backup to the up and down world of freelance. My experience working at a film school has been very positive. Also been thinking of trying out universities media production units for on campus content. Can anyone think of other places that regularly employ people with film and video production skills?

Hey im going to be shooting a music vid on what will most likely be a FS700 soon. I dont have heaps of experience operating, and I will be shooting solo. This vid will be kind of doco-style, following a couple walking through some nice landscapes, paddocks, forests etc. What would be the best ,easy to learn, way to kit out the camera? Over-the-shoulder kit I would be fine with but wondering if there is something smoother in-between that and steadicam, which I could get the hang of within just a day of practise? Obviously its just a music vid, so Ill be just editing the best parts, doesnt have to be super smooth at all times, but just wondering if I can improve on a shoulder rig. Ive heard easy rigs have a bit of a learning curve. Anything else I should check out? Thoughts? cheers!

Thanks matt... yep fs700 is looking like what i want.. at least for a few hires initially cus I just need slo-mo. The new firmware on the Odyssey7Q allows for some pretty neat external recording, So you say "out of the box" it doesnt.. can you elaborate on how I can make it more filmic with some adjustment? Are you talking in-camera settings or just grading?

Hey guys, as well as a budding shooter Im also a musician and about to release some music. I want a simple music video and have been playing the track along to some youtube vids of animals running in slo-mo (such as this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAnRURDEyGY). Its just works SO well... but its footage I could NEVER afford if its even available for sale. I just wonder in this age of digital mish mash of distribution, what would happen if I were to cut together a few segments from such videos and play my song over them and use that as a faux music vid? I understand that this would definitely not be allowed if the video were to be broadcast on say MTV (which it totally wont anyway!), but for the purposes of youtube, facebook etc what are the possibilities of this being ok? Could I get sued?? How it really any different from a fan posting up a bunch of "my favourite animals" videos? Finally, is there any way to get around licensing issues by "effecting" the video - black and white and in reverse, for example.. cheers!

Yeh i realise that, I was asking about a sub $5000 camera, not entire kit. So unless I'm mistaken it looks as though NAB didnt provide a solution to my needs for 2014.. damn..

No I don't really see that as an option. I'm building a reel and have zero clients, no productions I work on are going to have any budgets at this stage. Many projects I shoot will be off my own back,

Hey y'all, Needing some help regarding the acquisition of my first camera. I've been working in the industry heavily for 3 years but my intention is to now start spending more time building a reel. I have a decent bit of money saved and want to purchase a decent camera, lenses and some basic grip gear. The main projects I imagine shooting will be music vids, spec ads, small docos, and maybe some small shorts. I don't have any paid work lined up at this stage. So what I really want from a camera is; * Simple workflow, capturing a format like prores which grades well and can be handled on my quadcore laptop, but doesnt cost an immense amount to manage. * Decent slow motion capabilities (mostly for music vids) * Excellent latitude and filmic quality image. This is very important to me, I hate trying to work around the 5-stops-of-latitude DSLR look. * See no need for 4K, nothing i will be shooting at this stage will be viewed in a 4k medium. It would be nice to keep the camera sub-$5000, and I'd like to get something within the next few months. I don't really feel like there's any solution just yet which fulfils all those needs, but I'm keen on your thoughts and if you know of anything coming up I should hold my breathe for. thx for yo help!
