  1. thanks Vivian. Im interested to see the other kurosawa's films. Cure looks good.
  2. im making a music video for the everclear song "Sunflowers". If you've heard the song it'll make this easier. Im shooting it on DV with a GL-2. It will be primarily focused in a room with dark sheets covering the walls and natural looking sun light pouring in from a large window. I want the shots to look dark yet with streams of light coming in illuminating things. I dont have any pro lights to work with. I have regular lamps at home and a few things i can use for diffusion. In this room during the afternoon, which is when i will be filming, the light is usually like this. I plan on gathering up some more equipment tomorrow. So any tips on capturing these kind of dark sprawling light shots? and any suggestions on what equipment i should grab that i can get locally? perhaps at a hardware store. thanks for anyones help. Any tips also on things to use for diffussing light would help. Note: I'm not a cinematographer so i will most likely not understand the termonology. break it down if u can please. thanks guys.
  3. wow, im three years younger than this guy. and i feel really good now thanks to him. thanks malinko, for making us still very young chaps feel a lil more dandy about themselves. hehe
  4. Hi Sebastien, So you live in atlantic Canada huh? Thats nice i live in louisiana quite a different place im guessing but still not a big hub like new york or cali. Im an aspiring director myself but like you i wanna know more about Cinematography. On the shorts ive done so far ive kinda had to have been everyone at once. the director, the dp, the sound tech, the actor sometimes lol. i wish i could get some of my shorts on the comp. i have one music video ive done on my desktop but does anyone know how to get it online at least? Anyways welcome and welcome George and everyone else, its good to be here with yall.
  5. What kind of movie is it? I'm no pro but i am a screen writer at heart and mind.
  6. i got ya mitch. i was just trying to basically say people have seemed a lil touchy and not very inviting. terms are terms and i need to learn alot more. im not a DP or anything but id like to learn. Yet if you are gonna make it in any business, you should have technical finess along with communication skills. thats all.
  7. i love rashomon, sanjuro, seven samurai, and high and low. i really wanna see dreams. i ordered stray do and one wonderful sunday. should come in soon and be very nice
  8. thanks that cleared up all yalls techno mumbo jumbo, haha just kidding. but really people on here do have a habit of sounding or trying to sound real advance or its i just dont know the terms yet.
  9. anyways thanks everyone who posted. ill keep all that advice in mind.
  10. thanks guys. few questions: film slr, slide film? when u say get an slr camera u mean 35 mm still photograph? digital? and what is slide film. sorry if im supposed to know all this. heh after that, where some good cheap places i can pick all this up?
  11. Who here enjoys Akira Kurosawa's works? I love the man's film. I think they are great and very poetic in a way. Who will join me in saying hooray!
  12. That's really interesting. I'll not that site down because i had gotten an idea for a short film where most of the shots consisted of long tracking shots from three peoples pov's or from the side, front, and back. im guessing those cameras would be a good tool to use instead strapping a bulky camera to someone.
  13. I'm 17 and have been making ametuer films since i was ten. Ive just now been increasing in my directing and editing skills. but no matter what kind of talent you still need your essential gear. So far I have access of a Gl-2 and a tripod, adobe premeire, a friend's mag light and my imagination and things have turned out decent (i suppose judging from my standars) So now im wanting to take it up a notch. What all do you suggest i seriously invest in? I thinking Lights, my own DVX100, lens and filters, and mics. (in general speaking) How bout it? glad to be here and thanks for not shooting me on site.
  14. thanks. like i said i thought up the budget to be about 300-400 but that was basically just figuring up all that i needed. im noticing that light will require money which i can get and thanks for the adivce on feeding people. I like my actors to looook PALE!! kidding. Anyways yeah i try and find good acts around town but sometimes its hard to fit their schedule like u said or they dont have the vision. This film is a sort of spoof. A black comedy with a fairy tale essence to it. In the end it will be quite obscure (im hoping). i said i felt my experience in lighting was inadequate but ive been doing amatuer films since i was a 10. Of course im still not a pro like you guys, hehe but i have confidence. You gotta start small and you guys are making it all sound so impossible, oh btw its not going to be a feature length film. i never mentioned the length and im still not sure- maybe around an hour. yes i know its gonna be hard but like i said you gotta start some where. anyways are there any sites u could refer me to for cheap lighting equip or some places where i can get what you all mentioned.
  15. I am not actually sure kind of lighting i will be using. Im still in the screenwriting process. Like i said this is not a big feature production where ill have to feed the cast or pay the actors or anything. It's just something me and some friends are going to be doing. Anyways yeah what light equip would i need for such a film? Since the budget is pretty low, consider makeshift ideas and what not. Im thinking i can increase the budget with help of friends but i dont know how mcuh actually will be required. better to have more than enough though. ok thanks
  16. Also the budget for the film is between 300-400 us dollars, if that helps.
  17. I will be filming a B&W Samurai feature this summer hopefully. It should be a load of fun. It will either be filmed on The Gl-2 or the DVX100. I still feel quite inadequate in the field of lighting. I want it to be B&W in the end, but should i filmin B&W or film in normal and convert? which would be best? I dont have any pro light kits, none, not mucha any lighting stuff. i can maybe get some inexpensive stuff by then though. I want the film to look like an old kurosawa movie (Sanjuro, Yojinbo, Rashomon) There will be a forest scene and scenes inside and outside in day and night. so what's your advice? thanks
