  1. Wildcard question, when it comes to pornographic content --what cameras would you recommend one use to film it? Would you use to film it? Makes and models? Arri, red, aja cion, or blackmagic cameras? DSLRs? For internet distribution? DVD? TV? I ask this because i never knew what cameras were used to film content I've seen throughout the years, and even though most on here maybe have never filmed it or never would -- those same people probably know what would be used if they were to film it. How would their settings be set? ISOs? F stop? Anything else unmentioned?
  2. If someone desires to have a test shoot done to have an idea of the way a project will look before wasting time filming the entire thing, how would they go about doing that? Before continuing to use the wrong camera, lenses, lighting and whatever else --how would they? I'm asking this because i image people want certain projects to look a certain way before shooting it, but have no idea of knowing if will visually look they way they want without inevitably wasting money, time, and energy filming something that'll be worthless by mistake. Have you ever filmed a test shoot before? How did you go about doing it, if so? Ever know anyone that has? How did they, If so? When are they requested usually? How are they requested? How do they look when finished? Similar to the way the final project will look? Unfinished? Without post production work? With? The same thing a field monitor would show? More than that?
  3. I think it was shot poorly. The parts where the girl --main subject-- is posting up fliers has awkward shots being used --in my opinion-- and the shaky shots where she's featured --even if they're meant to be that way while shes riding a bike or whatever-- are visually annoying. Carolers are shown singing during another part of the film, and the framing of them and camera panning is poorly done in my opinion. What do you think? Do you agree? Disagree? Dislike it? Like it? If you dislike the filming of it, why do you? If not, why not? See something else wrong with it? Nothing wrong with it? How would you have filmed it differently if you were hired to film it? Anything? Nothing? Here's the film referenced:
  4. In the following clip a man is using a telescopic looking instrument/tool/device/object while on set. He's looking through it for whatever reason, and i'd like to know for what --and what it's called. Is it necessary to have on set while filming a production? Unnecessary? Depends? If it depends, what does it depend on? If it's always necessary, why? If not, why? Have you ever used it before? If so, why? What is it called? Why was that man using it in your opinion? Here is the footage mentioned above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCXdIsbSRM8 It's shown during the 1:34 and 1:44 marks of the video.
  5. I asked in a previous post here for recommendations on what cameras one should use to film reality TV, and in response saw EX3s listed as a possible choice of camera to use for filming it. Online I read articles regarding the camera after reading responses to my previous post, and saw a site where it was used on a recognizable production --for example-- and thought it to be odd due to it's inexpense that it'd be capable of pulling off the job mentioned. Filming a reality TV show seems like a grand feat, and that choice of camera seemed questionable to a novice since I usually see photos online of crew members filming reality TV with seemingly much larger --and maybe more technically capable-- Sony cameras regularly --maybe 800s/900s. As a result of the regular use of those cameras, I wondered if they were being used out of choice or for a more practical and wise reason. Below is a video clip of footage filmed with the EX3, and I feel it came out bad. In my opinion the crew member using it to film may have had something to do with it coming out the way it did --with no camera stabilization/movement equipment being used, and it looking shaky as a result of it. The member also seemed to zoom in/out roughly adding to the bad result, in my opinion-- but did the camera as well? Was it the wrong choice? Used incorrectly? Not a fit for that type of job? Could you have used it better? Created better result? How, if so? Why not, if not? Here's the EX3 footage mentioned above: Here's a picture of a reality TV show being filmed -- I don't know if the camera being used is a Sony 800/900 or other camera, but it may be. It isn't the EX3 from the looks of it: http://www4.pictures.zimbio.com/fp/Kim+Kardashian+Kim+Khloe+Film+Their+Reality+ZptbQlJziv6l.jpg Here's the site mentioned above: http://mattjanowsky.com/vh1-reality-show-behind-the-scenes-2/
  6. In recent times the AJA Cion was released to the public for purchase --in relevant terms-- but wasn't received well from what I understand. A lot of people panned it, but why did they? What did they find unfavorable about he camera? Is it the camera physical style? Weight? Size? Lack of specific features? Too many available features? Lack of inputs? Outputs? Type of memory storage it uses? Resolution it records in? Ability to allow certain lenses to be used wit it? Anything else not mentioned? Have you ever used the camera? If so, what did you think of it when using it? Do you disfavor it? If so, why? If not, why not? Do you know anyone who has used it? What did they think of it while using it? Do they disfavor it? If so, why? If not, why not?
  7. A lot of people after seeing their favorite tv/film stars attest to being stunned at how different their heights/statures appear to be in person versus what they though they would. They often say the subjects appeared taller/shorter on tv/in film than they did in person. Why do you think they appeared that way to them? So often appear that way to most people? Is it something about cameras and the way they record ones image? Lenses? The way ones image displays on a tv/movie screen? What have you experienced regarding the previously stated? Do you think people appear taller/shorter on tv/in film than they do in person? If so, why? Have subjects you've filmed appeared that way? If so, why? If not, why not? Subjects someone you know has filmed? Did the person you know have an opinion on the difference? What was it, if any?
  8. The type of interview i'm referring to would be one featuring an anonymous subject. I've seen interviews like the one featured below that shows a subjects silhouette being shown during an interview instead of his/her face, and it's done to provide protection o the subject/is allowed at the producers of the program discretion. How would you recommend filming something like that/achieving that look? I've also seen footage where an over the shoulder shot taken from behind the interviewed person is used --only showing the face of the interviewer on camera-- to conceal the interviewed subjects identity as well. What types of methods do you know of being used to conceal an interview subjects identity during an interview? Have you ever filmed an interview with the need to obscure a subjects identity? If so, how did you do it? Know anyone who has filmed something of that nature? If so, how did they do it? I'm referring to techniques not involving a censor blur added to footage during post-production, and ones involving the actual filming of the interview during the production process. Here's an example:
  9. While filming for a job, have you ever been heckled, harassed, attacked, or undesirably bothered by bystanders, young people, loud mouths, or awful strangers? Ever been touched inappropriately? Without your permission? Struck? Cursed at? Have a shot blocked? Equipment broken? Stolen? Mishandled? Anyone make lewd gestures towards you? If so, how did you handle it? What occurred? Why did it occur? Did the person ever stop? What made them stop? Know anyone who has gone through anything mentioned? How did they handle it? Did anyone harassing them ever stop? If so, what made them stop? I decided to ask this question because while I watch "live shots" on news airings, I see bizarre behavior like the following from time to time: Example: and wanted to know if anyone here has experienced similar behavior/if anyone here knows of someone who has experienced similar behavior.

  11. This is a clip from a television show that aired sometime ago, and it's visuals are confusing me when trying to figure out how many cameras were used to film what's shown. Personally --if I had to guess-- I'd say 4 cameras were used in the main judging area, and 2 were used in the waiting area backstage/dressing area. Here's the clip: There's a camera positioned behind the judges that is fashioned in a surveillance like position to the right of them, a guy filming with a camera attached to a sled and vest system or handheld in the room on the right of the runway, another on the left, and a camera to the right of the guy reading lines fashioned in a surveillance like way filming things. Backstage there are 2 cameras filming from 2 different angels in surveillance like fashions These are various shots I believe to be included in the clip, and some of them were taken from the same angles/cameraman/take as an insert, cutaway, or whatever else shot that's shown. - zoom out panelists/hunk contest plate - close ups of each judge - pan left judges - 3 shot judges - wide shot of judges right. - surveillance camera angle 1 backstage - surveillance camera angle 2 backstage - wide shot from behind judges area - Wide shot black guy from right - tilt up black guy from left - wide shot from left judges but from right of the guy reading lines - mid shot guy reading lines - another wide shot from left of judges but in front from the left of the guy reading lines instead of the right How would you have filmed the referenced footage? Where would you have positioned cameras? How many would you have used? Why would you have used that amount? Put them where you would? Know anyone who has filmed something similar? How did they film it? Where did they position their cameras? How many did they use? Why? Another shot was taken of guys in red tank tops sitting to the right of the judges in the corner, and that could have been taken with one of the camera operators in the room if I'm correct.
  12. This is an example of an interview filmed for a youth audience with an entertainment figure as a subject: What type of camera/camera do you think was used? How were it's settings set? What would you have used? Have you ever filmed something similar to it before? What did you use? How did you set it's settings? Why did you use it? Know anyone who has? What did they use? Why? Do you think the video has post-production work done to it? If so, what was done? Why? Did you have any done regarding your work? Anyone you know? What was done? Why?
  13. Below is a news package, and I want to know what type of camera would be used normally to film something of it's nature. How would it be used? What settings would it have? How would recorded footage be treated in post production? Have you ever filmed something like it before? What camera did you use? How did you use it? What were it's settings set to? What was done to it's recorded footage in post production? Know anyone else who has filmed a news package? How did they do it? What did they use to film it? How did they film it? What were their cameras settings set to? Here's the news package:
  14. Blackmagic pocket cinema cameras were allegedly used for the two works featured below, but they appear to look very different visually. Why is that? How were they filmed differently? The cameras used different? Were the setting on the cameras set differently for each project? If so, how differently? What were they set to for each? How would you have set them? One of them looks like something that was filmed for television --with a "tv-docu-series/tv special" look, and the other looks like a film. They're both documentaries --but don't really look like them in my opinion, as the first looks like a "tv-docu-series/tv special" and the other looks like a film. First example: Second example:

  16. I'm mostly referring to the parts that seemed to be filmed via hidden cameras. If they were filmed that way, how could they be in a way to uphold the integrity of the production? When I see what's shown, it seems as if there is a hidden camera strapped to a second party in the establishments investigated --and if so that extra party may have seemed like a guest of the party featured/highlighted in the story to workers/people interacting with the main party in the establishments. If that's the case, the integrity of the investigation may have been compromised due to the premise of the main party having "company" with them in the establishments investigated --and the fact that they had company, the company being male or female, of a certain race, age, or a number of other things that could have effected the way the main party was treated during the investigation. How do you believe that news investigation was filmed? The hidden camera parts --or at least the ones I presumed to be filmed the way mentioned above? Were hidden cameras used? If so, how were they used? How would you have filmed it? What cameras would you have used? Have you ever filmed similar material? If so, how did you do it? What did you use? Know of someone who has? What did they use? How did they do it? Am I right about the integrity of the investigation/highlighted in the news story being compromised if a guest were accompanying the main party featured?
  17. When it comes to filming late night or daytime talk shows such as the ones shown in the clips below, what cameras do you recommeded be used for their filming? Generally recommended? Mist commonly used? What makes and models of cameras? Types? What specifications should they have? Abilities? Features? Example of daytime talk show: Example of late night talk show: Also, how should they be used? What should their settings be set to? Film cameras are recommended to be set to film at 24fps and shot in 4k/1080p with a shutter speed of 50 for instance --from what I understand-- what about the cameras used for daytime and/or late night talk shows? Do they need to be shot in a flat color profile for better post production? What if they're being used for live tapings? Pre-recorded episodes? What other information should be known about the cameras recommended to be used for those filmings, and how they should be used? What have you used to film those types of shows, if you ever have? Why? Why not other cameras? What have other people you know used? Why? Why not other cameras?
  18. When hiring a cinematographer to figure out and assist in filming ones project and aid in making it look the way the hiring party envisioned, how is it advised to direct them? What information do they need to aid? Directions? Detail? How much of any of the mentioned? How long of a directorial process is it? What should they be told as a description for ones vision? I want it to look like a standard film? A reality tv show? Daytime talk show? Dark and moody? Is that last description more for a colorist to change/do during a post production process? Cinematographers job? Is there anything I haven't mentioned that they may need to know> If so, what? If not, why not?
  19. Whenever I watch a talk show or sitcom being filmed, they always seem to distinctively refer to the cameras used to film their programs as "studio cameras". They don't seem to be the same types of cameras I've seen/heard of being usef for film production --and look different as well. They can be seen being pushed around on things noted as pedestals, and are confusing me as I don't know why they are specially used for those types of programs versus ones for film. Film cameras i'm referring to may be ones from Arri or Red for instance --or certain DSLRs. Here's an image of the type of cameras I see being used during the type of programs mentioned: Are they capable of certain things the other cameras noted above are not? If so, what? Are they used differently? If so, how? If not, why not? Could the same types of programs mentioned be filmed on Arri or red cameras? Certain DSLRs? If so, why aren't they --at least from what I can tell? If not, why not? What differences are their between "studio cameras", and ones --like those noted above-- used for film?
  20. Why do filmmakers use Arri and Red cameras --for example-- to produce short/feature films, when they could possibly use cameras like the AJA cion, canon 1dc, and blackmagic pocket cinema camera --for instance-- to create a short/feature film of equal production value/image quality --or close enough-- as the more expensive cameras? As I've seen works made with less expensive ones, and they seemed similar enough in quality to me that I questioned why filmmakers would go for pricier cameras if it weren't necessarily needed. Is there a reason why those cameras are preferred in certain instances that I'm unaware of? Technical reasons? Others? The less expensive cameras seem less expensive to both rent and buy in my opinion.
  21. Recently I posted a post here inquiring about the types of cameras used to film reality TV, and received plenty of decent responses. Below is a sizzle reel for a show called "strippers and tippers", and it doesn't look as good as I would think it could have. There are reality shows out there like the one below, that perhaps have had large production teams behind them assisting in their production in different departments --and that most likely adds to the reality shows quality. The sizzle reel may not have had the same amount of people/circumstances behind it, and as a result wouldn't have flashy title sequences or animations for instance --but couldn't the image quality have been better? If so, how? How would you have had it filmed? Could it's overall quality been improved in anyway? If so, how? What would you have done to improve it's overall quality, if anything? The overall look of it? It was made with the canon mark 2 5d, 7d and sony ex1 cameras, and based on my other post I believe more could have been done to enhance it's look. Do you agree? Disagree? Sizzle reel example: Televised reality show example:
  22. For film I believe certain cameras like arri, red, select canon professional camcorders, the aja cion and certain DSLRs that can shoot in 4k are often used, but are those same cameras used for reality television. What type of cameras are usually used for reality television versus film? Are there certain specifications cameras used for that need to have, that ones used for film don't have? What specific makes and models of cameras are commonly used? Why is that? Can the cameras mentioned above be used for realty TV, but they need to be used differently for that type of content? For example film usually is shot in 24fps with a shutter speed of 50 and other variables, but are there different needs for reality TV? Is it good to shoot in 4k like it is in film, since 4k is supposed to closely resemble actual film --performing similarly to a film camera from what I understand? To shoot in something else? Is the color grading/correction process/need the same? Other processes? Have you ever shot for realtiy TV before? If so, what did you use? Why? Know anyone who has shot for reality TV? If so, what did they use? Why? When I say "reality TV", i'm mainly describing shows dedicated to the following of subjects in primarily an observational manner --not a competition show for instance. Here's is an example of the type of show i'm describing:
