For the top carrying handle I can warmly recommend this one:

As for batteries, buy a holder for 10 AA size batteries and get Eneloop batteries for it. It's easy to build one. Then, for mounting it on the mags I recommend this instead of velcro: https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/dual-lock-reclosable-fasteners-us/

Thank you! I don't feel like making a battery so i may just get one custom made with an XLR connector from battery space.

  2. How's it going,

just bought an ACL 1.5 and i'm in need of some parts.

    • ergonomic handle
    • top carrying handle
    • 75fps motor
    • battery with XLR port to hook up to the camera and be mounted on the magazine with velcro

If you have anything or have any leads please let me know!

    Best,

    Christopher

Was thinking about getting one of these as my first R8 camera, wonder if the cassettes are easily loaded..

  4. Maybe just go with the Canon if thats yr favorite off the list... 320asa is less than one stop over exposed and i don't think thats a bad thing for 500T, i've heard you can get finer grain and better color saturation if you overexpose one stop.  you can easily just open up the lens if you really need to be shooting at 500asa

  5. How's it! Looking for someone who can scan 2 tri-x super 8 films and possibly prep for telecine? I'm waiting on getting the film back from processing at spectra film and video and i wasn't able to have them do the prep for telecine because they have a minimum charge...  If yr willing to do it i'd be happy to pay for yr time.  Just looking to save some money.

  6. Only Beaulieu cameras and Leicina Special cameras have both manual ASA dials and interchangeable lenses. But both are very expensive and maintenance ain't cheap. So I wouldn't generally recommend them unless you REALLY need the sharpest, nicest stuff out there.

I'd honestly recommend just getting to know your Nizo better. It can read 50D, 200T and Tri-X perfectly. And you can shoot 500T. I have the 801 Macro and I love love love it. So a few methods:

    • Just shoot it on auto! Seriously 500T has crazy latitude. I've shot it on a beach in a Nizo and it was perfect.
    • See what the camera's meter (reading 500T as 160) shows then using the manual exposure dial, set your aperture to around 1-1.5 stops down (i.e. if the cam reads f4, set it to ~f5.6) then you'll be close to 500T would read without much trouble.
    • Get yourself a handheld meter or just use your phone! Then you can meter and just manually set it.
Any camera can shoot any film speed really. As long as you can control exposure. Honestly if you really need the speed, just shoot 500T wide open on your Nizo then push a stop in processing or just in the scan. Scans are so good these days with 2K. And no one even makes film above 500.

With that said, if you really want an auto-exposure camera, the Canon 814 series (814AZ, 814XL, 814XL-S) are all great and can expose 400 speed (as well as lesser speeds) and most have slo-mo options and some even variable shutter angles which is amazing. And can be had for $300 or less depending on the day.

thanks for the insight! i may just end up looking into cameras with a good zoom lens, or the nikon r10. What do you think about the Canon 1218? Seems like it would be good for surfing shots from the beach.

  7. i like the nizo’s but the highest film speed it reads is only 160asa. I want something that can go up to 400 to 600 asa. Manually being able to adjust film speed seems like it would save the of headache trying to figure out what the camera is actually going to be exposing the film as. Is the 4008 really the only true variable speed? i thought other brands made cameras with this option and i’ve heard that beaulieu’s require good maintenance in order to work well, something i can’t afford.

  8. any recommendations for some good sharp super 8 cameras that enable me to manually adjust the speed of the film? a good zoom lens or interchangeable lens ability would be a plus, but i dunno if i can afford one that allows for changing lenses. I have a Nizo S 560 and im looking for a step up. my budget is around $300 or less. thanks!

  9. Thanks for the link to the manual Mr. Dunn!

So I would only set the camera to the PMA mode if I were wanting to film some macro shots or if I had the PMA wide angle lens attachment (which I don't have)? And according to the manual, It says on a sunny day with the lens set to 9mm focal length the image would be in focus from 0.5 meters to infinity. Is this correct? Sorry if its a dumb question. I've heard of people getting films back that are all out of focus and I'd hate for that to happen to me. What's a good substitute for the Eumig grease used for the O-ring? Thanks!

Also, if anybody has the hand grip for this camera, the PMA wide angle lens or cork float that they would be willing to sell me please shoot me a message.

  10. I just got a Eumig Nautica with no lens attachments or anything. I plan on using it for surfing shots. What are the focus ranges for this camera? Will I need any lens attachments for it to work properly in the situation I'm using it in? A manual for this camera would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to find one anywhere! Any advice would help! Thanks!
