  1. i ran into the same problem - what i did was press in the one spring roller that has the locking lever and lock it into the pressed in position. Now you only need to press in the two other spring rollers, which you can do with two flathead screwdrivers, while installing the turret. don't forget to apply the kluber dampening grease before.

  2. If you want to build up a small business, great, but I think Foma should do a Kickstarter and see if they can get minimum order in. No need for you to take all the financial risk. That way Foma could gauge the demand, and decide to offer their stocks in 16mm on a regular basis. Basically what Lomography does with their funky film stocks.

  3. Aaton XTR Prod rubber eyecup 3D model for 3D printing (ID 40mm, lip 2.4mm thick)

You can download these files for 3D printing (STEP and STL)

The overhangs on the underside are maximum 45° so i can be printed on a FDM printer with TPU without support structure.

Or send it to a 3D prining service provider that prints flexible parts.

I might model an Arriflex Rubber eyecup as well.

    Cheers

i just got an invite to order one, but its through B&H. are they managing the sales or did I get an extremely targeted svam email?

Yes, the sales go through B&H for the US, which surprised me as well. Why introduce a middle man to a price sensitive product? So if your email was sent by Kodak, it's not a scam, though the re-registration period to secure one has already ended to my knowledge.

  5. A 14.4V Li-ion battery delivers 16.8V when fully charged at the beginning. So if your camera asks for 12V, I would not hook it up directly, but go through a Voltage regulator capable of delivering the amps needed at startup. The battery you listed can provide a 12A power draw, which is more than enough.

  6. i would call Indiprotools to check if the voltage regulator can handle the peak amperage of your 35BL Evolution when ramping up to speed.

A BL4s Evolution draws around 3 amps when running according to Dom Jaeger, but more (twice to 3 times as much?) during spin-up peak.

  7. I understand your point Giray. I just tried to point out, that not everyone who will buy this camera, will necessarily think about the return of investment. Kite surfing or paragliding are more expensive hobbies than shooting film.

I always loved the look of Madonna's music video JML:

I wish the best of luck whoever is actually trying to make a living with their Super 8 cameras. The market is simply not there.

I wonder how many owners of the latest +6000$ DSLR are actually making a living off of it. Maybe half of a percent? (My estimate might be skewed, as I live in Switzerland, and I see every tourist/dad/soccer mom with the latest and greatest DSLR) I'm glad they released the camera. If one percent of their pre-orders convert to actual sales, that's a few hundred cameras. They won't make back the R&D cost, but they show a commitment to the Super8 format, which is wonderful.
